Mehrab, The mark of pious people

So i've heard only pious folks who are consistent in their prayers get this mark and on the day of judgement those marks will illuminate.

Now I wonder, many people say this is the sign of those people but is it true? Couldn't i just make a mark by banging my head constantly?

References literature, short and sweet, make my day

    Surah 48 (Al-Fath), verse 29

Muhammad is the Apostle of Allah; and those who are with him are strong against Unbelievers (but) compassionate amongst each other. Thou wilt see them bow and prostrate themselves (in prayer) seeking Grace from Allah and (His) Good Pleasure. On their faces are their marks (being) the traces of their prostration. This is their similitude in the Torah; and their similitude in the Gospel is: like a seed which sends forth its blade then makes it strong; it then becomes thick and it stands on its own stem (filling) the sowers with wonder and delight. As a result it fills the Unbelievers with rage at him. Allah has promised those among them who believe and do righteous deeds Forgiveness and a great Reward.

Both Halal & Haram r evident but between them r doubtful things, most ppl have no knowledge about them. So whoever saves himself from suspicious things saves his religion & honor, & whoever indulges in suspicious things indulges in Haram.

The arabic word translated as marks in 48:20 is seemahum.

It's all fine till we read:

[Muhammad 47:29] Or do those in whose hearts is a disease think that Allah will not bring forth their spite?

[Muhammad 47:30] And if We please We would have made you know them so that you would certainly have recognized them by their marks (biseemahum) and most certainly you can recognize them by the intent of (their) speech; and Allah knows your deeds.

PakistaniAbroad: It appears that there is a dilemma! Those in whose heart is a disease also have marks!!

please read carefully the vere u have posted....

And if We please We would have made....

it says we would have made, meaning Allah did not make those with a disease in their heart, with any mark....
it only says that He could have made....

            PakistaniAbroad;
Isn't that what makes it so hard to pick out the bad eggs, since they dont have a mark? That verse is straight-forward, i.e. it is hard to spot those people since they dont have a mark. I recommend you go back and try to understand the meaning of the operative words, such as 'if', and 'would'. Friendly advice.

armughal and Mahiwal have both missed the point under discussion.

the 'marks' aren't a physical appearance. What about those people today who offer their 'prostrations' on soft cloth?? Will they ever be counted among the 'pious'??

The 'marks' is used metaphorically. Trouble with most people is they wish to treat the Qur'an literally ALL of the time.

Also the 'would', and 'if' are about enabling the prophet to see those 'marks'.. the fact remains that if Allah willed, he could have given the prophet the ability to tell people's intentions by looking at their face.

Also it would serve your point of view better to go back to Torah, (something you guys often fall back on for your religious laws) and get the similitude that Allah refers to.

#1- No one mentioned the Torah in this thread.
#2- Your fourth paragraph, no one is disagreeing with this notion
#3- Marks is used metamorphically you say, but you never mentioned that in your previous post so dont back out. Also, this is why muslims follow the interpretation of the Prophet(SAWW) and his companions(RA) when it comes to interpretting words of the Quran since two normal people can come to two completely different conclusions.

Read 48:29 again and this time use your reading glasses.

My post was to illustrate the very fact that if you are to treat marks as a physical scar or something you have to take into consideration that 'non-pious' people could have them too.

Two normal 'companions' have come to different conclusions too.. which is why you have so many Imams and 'madhabs'.. it's all about whose thinking and interpretation you follow.. why not use your own head for a change?

Why beat a broken drum? Read what the Imaam has said, if it is Saheeh and makes sense to you, then follow it. Why do all the research again that someone has done for you already?

About Torah, my comment was in regards to your un-necessary words in the brackets which only serve as a point for fire.

You're wondering at the number of madhabs right now, maybe you could imagine the number if everyone tried to be his own Imaam.
