    mixed religion marriages

I am very non judgemental but am very curious of the laws pertaining to Muslims and Christians marrying in Pakistan. Are these marriages frowned upon by the society as a whole? Are they very common?

Thank you for any information on this subject.

I dunno if there are any Federal Laws in pakistan about mixed religion marriages...but according to islamic law a Muslim man (aside from marrying other muslim women) can marry any chaste virgin christian or jew woman. There may be more specifics to this that im not aware of.

A muslim woman can only marry a muslim man.

Quran allows the marrying of Muslims to the people of the book (i.e. christians and jews) but strictly forbids marriage to anyone who holds partners to Allah....
and any christian who believes that Jesus was son of God, is associating partner to Allah and marrying such a person is not allowed....

"Our Lord! forgive us our sins and anything we may have done that transgressed our duty; establish our feet firmly and help us against those that resist faith." Quran(3:147)
Both Halal & Haram r evident but between them r doubtful things, most ppl have no knowledge about them. So whoever saves himself from suspicious things saves his religion & honor, & whoever indulges in suspicious things indulges in Haram.

        Thank you Maniac,
So according to Islamic Law a Muslim man can marry any chaste virgin Christian, would this then eliminate a woman who is divorced but is modest and has had no relationship outside of marriage?
        Thanks

Chastity is laid down by the Qur'an. Virginity is not mentioned anywhere.

moonrose, i'm sure you wanted to post it in the Society & Culture forum, as not all Pakistani Laws are derived from religious sources.

                  salam all,

well in Islam muslims may marry with people of the book: that would be chritians and jews. But most christians today arnt proper christians int hat they are not properly monotheistic. Hence in that only groups like jehova witnesses, mormons etc. would be people of the book and other christians like catholics and stuff would be mushrikeen.

In Islam, a muslims male can marry any non muslims female of judaist or monotheistic christian denomination and conversion is not a prerequisite. However there should be prenuptual agreement that the children are to be brought up in Islamic traditions.
Whether the female is virgin or not matters not.
If a muslim male is going to marry a nonmuslim pagan female...conversion is a requisite either before or after a marriage.

A muslim woman cannot marry any non mulims male unless the former converts with truest intentions, meaning if divorce occurs he may not revert back to his old ways otherwise he'll be murtad
