    Is Javed a muslim name???

    Is Javed a muslim name....if so what is it's derrivation i.e. how is it that only muslim males from the indian sub-continent have this name and no one in the Middle East???

    Is there an equivalent in the Middle East?

    There is no such list of muslim names as such. The concept of Islamic names arises from the advice of Prophet SAW to give nice names to kids, names that have good, positive meanings.

    Javed is a persian word meaning eternal. You must have heard the phrase 'zinda javed' in urdu, meaning alive and eternal. It does have an odd meaning to it, in that the attribute of being eternal lies only with Allah SWT, however this name is widely used in Pakistan, perhaps under the conception that it merely means alive and well...not eternal. Its just something that has become so common, people dont realize it may be wrong.

      Thankyou very much Akif.

      I thought it strictly translated as 'long lived' as in lasting?

      So maybe it is not "wrong"ly ascribed to muslims?

      But Persian hmmm ok thanks.

        David == Javed comes from Middle East --> King DAVID.

                    David = "beloved"

                    If Javed means "eternal", they most certainly are not connected.

                    Just because words sound the same does not mean they mean the same.

                      Question is these names have meaning, but we consider this name as a Prophet name. David, Da'wud, Javed.
