    Distinguishing Marks

The following is an article that I saw and requested permission to publish here. I hope that the author, Ibrahim, will join us and entertain any questions or discussions we might address to him.

Ibrahim says; Greetings of Peace to one and all

    Dear All,

From ancient times mankind had gone to great lengths to put “MARKS” on their forehead, face, hands, and body. And for sure these marks gave an identity to them and had much significance at that time frame. It basically established the identity of a certain group of individuals be it based on tribe or religion.

These “identifying marks” did serve a purpose and they must have originated from certain believes that those tribes had practiced in the past. Some believe it may ward off evil whilst other may believe it was sacred.

Immaterial of what the belief, man had gone to lengths to ensure that these marks had been placed on their person and If we ask the current generation concerning the significance of those marks, most will not be able to give us a logical answer for it..

The most popular of these marks are adorned by the hindus and they believe it had sacred significance . Tracing this significance in hindu scriptures is an awesome task , since hindu scriptures can be voluminous and many sacred texts are not available to the public at large even now.

Anyway the next best or more accurate scripture other than the hindus scriptures, that can provide evidence for these “marks” that man had become fond of adorning on themselves, will be the Bible. Since the bible is some what a correction of the hindu scripture it can actually reveal why the hindus are adorning them.

The most revealing chapter in the Bible concerning marks on the forehead is recorded in Ezekiel.

    Let us read:

Ezekiel 9:3. Now the glory of the God of Israel went up from above the cherubim, where it had been, and moved to the threshold of the temple. Then the LORD called to the man clothed in linen who had the writing kit at his side

    4. and said to him, "Go throughout the city of Jerusalem and put a mark on the foreheads of those who grieve and lament over all the detestable things that are done in it."

Ibrahim commentsmeaning only the pious who were opposing the evil were to be given marks on their forehead )

    5. As I listened, he said to the others, Follow him through the city and kill, without showing pity or compassion. Slaughter old men, young men and maidens, women and children, but do not touch anyone who has the mark . Begin at my sanctuary." So they began with the elders who were in front of the temple.

Ibrahim says; Hence according to this passage the marks on the foreheads was ordained by God , basically distinguishing the believers from the unbelievers. Those that had it were amongst the pious in that land and and were saved from the slaughter.

A further confirmation for the marks on the forehead are revealed in
Exodus 9. 13 This observance will be for you like a sign on your hand and a reminder on your forehead that the law of the LORD is to be on your lips . For the LORD brought you out of Egypt with his mighty hand.

    Repeated Again in…

Exodus 13:16. And it will be like a sign on your hand and a symbol on your forehead that the LORD brought us out of Egypt with his mighty hand ."

Ibrahim says; But Jews who hold this scripture ( torah) sacred do not use any marks on their foreheads like hindus have been doing. Basically Jews interpret the above according to the following passage.

Duet 6 :6. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts.

    6. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

8 . Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.

Ibrahim says; hence the Jews actually tie strips of sacred texts around their hands and also use a phylactery…. according to the dictionary Phylactery means:-

1 : either of two small square leather boxes containing slips inscribed with scriptural passages and traditionally worn on the left arm and on the head by Jewish men during morning weekday prayers
    2 : AMULET

Hence the only people we know that apply marks ( bindi/tilak/dot) on their foreheads are hindus and the first passage that I quoted above, tells us why some people would have ended up wearing the marks on their foreheads.

Let us go down the line to see how the Christians understand this, actually they do not practice any from of markings on their person except to wear a cross (and that too not all ) But their teachings indeed conveys that “BELIEVERS” will have marks on their foreheads and ONLY they will be saved in the end.

    Let us read:-

Rev 7:3 "Do not harm the land or the sea or the trees until we put a seal on the foreheads of the servants of our God."
4: Then I heard the number of those who were sealed: 144,000 from all the tribes of Israel.

Ibrahim says; Now this from the book of revelations which is supposed to be prophesy , hence if it materializes as the Christians hope it will, only 144,000 will have this marks on their head on the other hand, If it had already taken place only 144,000 were TRUE pious believers and the rest were not and they will be killed or had been killed already.

Any way lets see the significance of the marks on the forehead …. Lets read…

Rev 9:4. They were told not to harm the grass of the earth or any plant or tree, but only those people who did not have the seal of God on their foreheads.

Ibrahim says: So It is very CLEAR That the marks actually distinguished the believer from the unbeliever. Further confirmation that this event had actually taken place , can be understood from …
Revelation 14 :1 Then I looked, and there before me was the Lamb, standing on Mount Zion, and with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father's name written on their foreheads .

Ibrahim says: Hence all these verses reveals to use that marks on the forehead was indeed an identity for the pious only and NOT for everyone who claimed they belong to a certain faith. On the other hand anybody can put a mark on their forehead and that would not in anyway distinguish a believer from an unbeliever would it?? So the question arises, who will responsible to put the marks on the believers forehead?

Lets us try to understand the TRUTH behind this by looking at the Qur’an which is the correction for the Bible , just like the Bible is the correction for the Veda.

    Let us read:-

Soorah 48:28 It is He who has sent His Apostle with Guidance and the Religion of Truth to proclaim it over all religion :and enough is Allah for a Witness.

29 Muhammad is the Apostle of Allah; and those who are with him are strong against Unbelievers (but) compassionate amongst each other. Thou wilt see them bow and prostrate themselves (in prayer) seeking Grace from Allah and (His) Good Pleasure. On their faces are their marks (being) the traces of their prostration. This is their similitude in the Torah ; and their similitude in the Gospel is: like a seed which sends forth its blade then makes it strong; it then becomes thick and it stands on its own stem (filling) the sowers with wonder and delight. As a result it fills the Unbelievers with rage at him. Allah has promised those among them who believe and do righteous deeds Forgiveness and a great Reward.

Ibrahim says: Now it is VERY clear as to how one can get the “marks” on their forehead Not by placing it yourself like our hindu brethren have become accustomed to, but it will appear naturally for those who had bowed to the will of God. Meaning ONLY those that prostrate to God, will have marks on their foreheads not everyone who claims they believe in God but ONLY those submitting to him by way of prostration that all the prophets and messengers had practiced including Christ.

Hence the marks on the forehead is suppose to be a “natural” identity that will be given to believers who prostrate and humble themselves to Allah/God alone and none other.
Hence the mystery behind the dot has been resolved, so now you know too : )
