I'm trying to find examples of how backbiting and causing problems can lead to or is fitna. If anyone has any resources on this, please post them here. Jazakallah.

    Re: Fitna

Allah(SWT) revealed to Prophet ‘Isa(A): He who dies after repenting from backbiting will enter paradise last. He who dies without such repentance will enter hell first. - SURATUL HUJURAT (49:12): “O YOU WHO BELIEVE: AVOID SUSPICION, FOR SUSPICION IS A SIN. AND DON’T SPY NOR BACKBITE ONE ANOTHER. WOULD YOU LIKE TO EAT THE FLESH OF YOUR DEAD BROTHER? KEEP YOUR DUTY TO ALLAH. ALLAH IS RELENTING, MERCIFUL.” Reflect! This verse of The Holy Quran equates backbiting with eating the flesh of one’s dead brother. Therefore, backbiting is like eating a corpse.
    - Hazrat Abu Hurairah® reported that the Prophet(S) said: He who eats the flesh of his brother (by unlawfully backbiting him) in this life will be presented with the body of his dead brother in the next life and will be told to eat his dead flesh just as he ate his flesh when he was alive.
    - The Prophet(S) said: Beware of backbiting as it is a more heinous sin than fornication. If a man commits fornication and repents, Allah(SWT) may accept his repentance, but the repentance for backbiting is not accepted until the backbited one pardons you.
    - Hazrat Anas® reported that the Prophet(S) once mentioned that one dirham of interest is more heinous than 36 fornications , but the greatest sin is to destroy the honor of a Muslim by unlawfully backbiting him.
    - There are three types of sins that are punishable in the grave:
2)Revealing the secret of someone who has entrusted you.
3)Breaking the rules of the call of nature.

      Re: Fitna

As for expiation for ghibah, it should be known that a backbiter commits two sins: one is violation of Allah's right, as he has committed something that Allah has prohibited him to do; the expiation for this sin is repentance and regret. The other sin is committed against the honor of the backbitten person; if the latter has known about the backbiter's act against him, he should ask him for forgiveness. It was reported on the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that Allah’s Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever has wronged his brother with regard to wealth or honor, should ask for his pardon (before his death), before he pays for it (in the Hereafter) when he will have neither a Dinar nor a Dirham. (He should secure pardon in this life) before some of his good deeds are taken and paid to this (his brother), or (if he has no good deeds) some of the bad deeds of this (his brother) are taken to be loaded on him.” (Reported by Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

If, however, the person backbitten has not known about the backbiter's act against him, the latter should keep beseeching Allah to forgive him (the backbitten person), so that he may not know about it and thus become angry with him (and that he himself may forgive him if he is to know about it).
