Education discussion for a progressive Pakistan

We have all seen it many times before. People say that the answer to the problems of Pakistan is more education. However, beyond that people do not go much further.

I will write my comments later, but before that I want everyone to view this video. Please do not reply to this thread before you have at the very least heard Javed Burki's comments. They are very insightful.

Fast forward to 42:45 to listen to Burki's presentation, though I would recommend you listen to the whole program if you have the time.

Good stuff Imdad, Burki's a good writer, this is the first time I have heard him speak. Unfortunately his only achievement as finance Minister during Leghari's caretaker govt, was rescheduling Paksitans debts by taking more loans. Not much of an achievement!

Still the man has some good ideas, his ZAB bashing does have some relevance to another thread on corrupt leaders started by Rajputfury.
How can a man die better than facing fearful odds for the ashes of his fathers and the Temple of his Gods?

No point Burki commenting about Pakistan from USA. If he really cares he should come to Pakistan and try and chnage it.

I don't fully agree with his argument anyway. Islamic studies are very important to the country, so that part must stay. May be the rest he can debate.

Javed Burki is just like many Pakistanis based in USA, they wear western suits and please their American masters, there by filling their pockets with money.

Burki is an American stooge, he knows nothing about Pakistan or its educational system and he never will.

Imdad Ali - you know nothing. What good is it for Burki to keep harping from America. No good him talking to the Americans whilst wearing western suits so that Americans might think he is clever, he should talk to Pakistanis in Pakistan. Let him come to Pakistan, let him prove himself.

Iftikhar ..Burki spent a considerable amount of time in Pakistan. I don't think he needs to prove himself.

The education standards have to be raised, and this damn system of making money by opening schools has to be stopped in Pakistan.

                    1. License is a must for a school, with an accredited program etc. We can work the details out later.

                    2. Schools would require their own building - not a freaking house - and would require to maintain standards of grades and education.

                    3. Public schools must have a more rounded education system, with an emphasis in the "flaky stuff" like economics, literature, history etc. Not just sciences.

                    4. More money. Money money money makes the world go round.
You can't fix stupid. So might as well troll them!

What Pakistan needs, and education that is much more diversified.. Currently, the curriculum is vert limited, and Pakistan/Islam dominant. Pakistanis cant compete in this world with such subjects as Pak and Islamic studies. While they are both important to learn, you cant neglect the history of the world and other countries besides Pakistan.
Islamic studies should be a subject for Madrassas anyways, and if it has to be taught in school, then it should be along side other religions, perhaps comparative religoun classes.
Also, Pakistan is in desperate need of finding better text books and learning tools. The govt seems to have a monoply on text books, and as a result, the quality is HORRIBLE in every way. Private publishing houses whould be allowed a more market access. Without proper learning tools, even the best of education is useless.
