‘Disgruntled’ Shah Mehmood quits PPP, resigns NA seat
The former foreign minister had been at odds with the PPP leadership ever since his removal as foreign minister.Addressing a news conference held to announce his resignation, Qureshi said it is always difficult to break old bonds, yet some decisions have to be taken. He said the PPP had a philosophy enchanting the masses to lay down sacrifices for the party. He recalled the days of the latest return of PPP’s chairperson Benazir Bhutto from exile, and the party workers enthusiasm.He said he had a history of standing up for principle. He said he was the first district nazim to resign.Talks have been taking rounds that if Qureshi would join the PTI or any other party. However, the ex-foreign minister has been keeping his cards closer to the chest.At the news conference, Qureshi mentioned of a meeting with President Zardari weherin he had advised the president to try new alliances to form PPP government in Punjab. He said the president replied that making an alliance with “the Qatil League” (reference to PML-Q) is out of the questions as the party workers would not sit well with the decision.Qureshi said he was given foreign ministry, he never made a request. He said Benazir signed Charter of Democracy with the PML-N, and not the PML-Q. He said he opposed alliance with the PML-Q for the very reason.
The former foreign minister also quetioned the delay in the arrest of Benazir s murder. He said those who had betrayed Banazir Bhutto are serving as "the right hand" of President Zardari.
