All the friends Pakistani adventurers have made!

Khaled Ahemed summarises the view that the adventurers in Pakistan have ticked practically all of the neighbours who could have been good friends. Hopefully we can change the track!

Why doesnít the Islamic world speak out?
    Khaled Ahmedís Urdu Press Review

.....During Pakistanís romance with the Taliban, Iran and Pakistan were on the opposite sides. In fact when the Taliban killed some of the Iranian-backed Afghans and captured and maltreated some of the Iranian diplomats, the bilateral equation dipped quite low.

The war in Afghanistan offended the Central Asian Muslim republics and Turkey too. The Uzbek president actually thought that the Islamists who tried to kill him twice were linked to Pakistani jehadis. Tajikistan similarly complained of infiltration in favour of Juma Namangani. (The man himself went in once through Karachi.) Hasina Wajed of Bangladesh suspected Pakistanís hand in two attempts on her life. She even spoke up against Pakistan without naming it when in America at the same time as General Musharraf. Turkey hated the Taliban and supported Dostam. The Turkish prime minister visited India and pointedly quoted from the Mahabharata to express his preference for India. Malaysia has complained about infiltration of Al Qaeda from Pakistan and one terrorist, Indonesian Hanbali, has fled from Malaysia to take shelter in Karachi. In fact, despite its growing links with Israel, India has maintained a better profile in the Islamic world than Pakistan. Pakistanís jehadi irredentism and its loose-tongued warrior priests have offended the governments in the Islamic world. No surprise therefore that they have kept silent and the OIC has not been disturbed from its slumber. Anyone who is familiar with Nawabzadaís tawdry non-intellectual reliance on orthodox opinion will know that he is up to his usual empty rhetoric......

    Old Lahori,

Pak govt has its head in the sand. It just doesnt understand that for the rest of teh world, jihad is like a disease. Today, every Islamic terrorist worth his salt either lived in or trained in Pakistan.

Pak govt used Pan Islamists for covert war against India, but the result is chaos within Pakistan itself.

It cannot crackdown against SSP,LeJ and JeM because its own agencies are involved with these groups and it is afraid of the secrets coming out.

You play with mad dogs, they will come back to bite you someday...

Actually we need to make a distinction between Musharraf and rest of pakistani govt. Rest of pakistani givt may have their head buried in sands of envy and bitterness. Musharraf is smarter than that crowd. His weaknesses are two fold: 1) he is alone and 2) he does not have truth on his side.

In history even if one is alone, some have won because they had truth on their side. But no one, whether alone or with wide support (eg: Hitler) never won if they didn't have truth and right on their side.

India is winning in spite of having not so bright politicians because she has truth and right in her side.

Pakistan lost inspite of having a bright leader because she does not have truth and right on her side.

Your posts above clearly highlights the problems with South Asia. Here, if a neighbors house catches fire people usually run out to help because they know that if it gets out of hand their own house will suffer. The problem there is that apparently there you guys are quite content to sit back and start snickering "see I told you so" and perhaps start throwing kindling now and then to encourage the flame. I guess the history is long and past is hard to overcome. If Vajpayee really made the trip to lahore to make peace, think about it; if you guys now really work with Pakistan to straighten the mess on both sides. Maybe that trip to Lahores spirit would come true. India and Pakistan are going to neighbors, no matter what anyone does! You just cannot change geography! So instead of smug I told you so and here is what is wrong with you, and this is why you guys are no good, etc. etc., how about using your smarts and keeping all the facts on the ground in mind coming up with a way to generate a real era of peace and progress? There are enough troubles to go around as far as I can see from here! So how about it? Keep you tempers in check, and some constructive and encouraging words?

Talwar, I know you are smart enough to know what jihad really means! Again how about stating things in a sensitive way, and not falling into the trap of cliches. Spock, the word Jihad has been misused and abused and you know the problems that Zayad Yasin had even giving his speech at Harvard. He handled the situation with dignity and won admiration!

*ahem* Werent you the one who said India didnt chicken out, and didnt attack becoz Pakistan had wiped out these agencies? hehe

So that just proves India did infact chicken out (which they did anywayz, cuz in the beginning they said that pakistan would never crack down on these agencies in the first place)... Chickens...
