    LETTER BOX AND RAILWAY TICKET

A news item appearing on 19th December says Pakistan Post Office was changing colour of letter boxes from present Red to Yellow.

Sometime mid 90s all of a sudden colour of express trains started changing. If my vivid memories are not misguiding me such first train was the Tezgam. On its inauguration at Karachi Cantt railway station when the Railways Minister was questioned rationale behind this his marvelous reply was “the new colour will encourage the ticketless passengers to buy ticket”. Thanks God colour of only three trains could be changed as God blessed the nation by sending the Minister home. How many ticketless passeners purchased ticket is not known but on thing is on record that how much paint supply orders pain factory of concerned railways minister got.

Pakistan Post Office letter box had in the past been red. These were changed to dark and then again red. Now once again these are being changed to yellow.

Would such a change increase efficiency of post office in general or delivery of mail specifically? A debit ridden country and keep continuing new experiments just only to spend money and benefit some “dear ones” really is a matter to be ponder. Nawaz Sharif claimed austerity and did the present government. September 2001 a news item appeared that the second time planned tour the Director General of Pakistan Post Office to some city in interior of Sindh was postponed for which “preparations” were made “on course one expense”. A director General to visit his own department then why need “preparations” on expense of citizens and this wastage then to recover from citizens in the name of losses to the department.
