Pak cabbie in US wins $55m lottery

    From Afzal Khan
WASHINGTON – Pakistani cab driver in Washington overnight became a billionaire winning the largest single Powerball lottery prize – a $55.2 million (about Rs 3.48 billion) jackpot.
Ehsan Khan, 43, who lives in Arlingtin and had come to the United States 22 years ago, claimed the prize nine days after it was announced. During this period he was apparently working out arrangements for personal safety and had also hired a financial adviser. He declined to speak to the media as cameras clicked his pictures.
Washington DC Lottery spokesman Bob Hainey said Ehsan wants to use most of the Prize money for godly things. Ehsan was fasting on the first day of Ramadan when the media approached him. “ He is a Muslim, so today is a big day for him, “ Bob said.
Khan has decided to take the entire amount in a lumpsum payment rather than in $ 2.2 million instalments over 25 years. That would reduce his prize to $ 32.4 million before tax. Khan, who has been playing lottery for last six years, showed up at the lottery claim centre with his winning ticket and his personal banker.
For more than a week, lottery officials in Washington DC and 21 states that participate in Powerball waited for the lucky person to reveal his or her identity and wishful game-players rechecked their tickets for the winning numbers — 2, 4, 6, 17, 25 and a Powerball number of 31.
“He was the only winner,” Hainey said. “That makes him the largest single ticket winner.” The District had a $90 million lottery prize in December 1993, but it was shared by a District resident and a man who lived in Richmond. Khan decided to take the money in a lumpsum payment of $32.4 million before taxes, rather than in $2.2 million instalments over 25 years.
Khan gave no explanation for why he took nine days to show up. He was accompanied by his financial adviser from Riggs Bank. Khan, who is married and has three sons, moved to the United States 22 years ago. He plans to travel to Pakistan in a couple of weeks.
Khan purchased his winning ticket at a filling station in Georgetown. The owners of the gas station, Won and Eun Kim, will get about $100,000 for selling the jackpot ticket.
“This is a great day for the D.C. Lottery, because we want people to know that when they play, they can win in D.C.,” said Jeanette A. Michael, the lottery’s deputy director of operations, adding “and we want them to keep playing.”

Gambling is something which every muslim knows to be haram. But sadly even such things exist in the muslim lands, because the same kufr system which is implemented in america is also implemented in pakistan and the other muslim countries. The rulers allow and encourage such past times to keep the muslims pre-occupied and silent about their kufr rule. All i can say to the brother who won repent to Allah swt and ask him to forgive you,and in this blessed month return to your lord. The same advise also applies to the rulers like musharaff and others.

He is going to pakistan in a couple of weeks, BIG BIG BIG mistake. From the way things happpen in pakistan, he'd be kidnapped at the airport or one of his children would be kidnapped. The poor guy will end up spending all his money in ransom

                      OR

He will get flu or an upset stomach by eating lots of tikkas and will get admitted to The Agha Khan Hospital who will make him believe he has cancer and will get all his money for his hospital stay and medication.

It'll be a lose, lose situation for him

There are many other scenarios I could think of, but for now these will do

He should buy a new cab with fancy shamancy stereo system, with 8 speakers and dolby system. He should not pick up any passengers when is on the road. He should middle finger all those who hail for him to stop.

CM, was that you standing on the corner of Pennsylvania and Constitution Ave? Next time, you don’t have to stand in the middle of the street to hail a Cab. And you use your hand to hail, not flash your privates. Next time, when you are on a visit to the USA, buy yourself a Lonely Planet Guide.
