AUSTERITY - FINANCIAL MURDERING OF SERVANTS AND BHURBAN

We are a nation of slogans ”Believers” and accordingly as such GOD has always given our nation slogan mongers leaders.

Each of our leader may he be a civilian, heavy mandated or socialist or a military ruler always sloganed “austerity” and “simplicity”. For austerity thousands of families are financially “murdered” by retrenching in the name of reduction in administrative expenses but same saved amount is spent on re-appointment of a few consultants.

There was an Editor of a Karachi weekly magazine on “Business & Economy”. Reading articles of said editor always gave impression as if during the whole night he had been practically weeping on financial sufferings of the nation. One fine day he became Governor of Sindh. Immediately on taking over his charge he was as a Chief Guest performing “inauguration ceremony” of then newly introduced Public Fax Machine of Karachi GPO. I could not believe the “Munafiqat” when I saw him inaugurating in posh costly Inter Continental Hotel (at that time this was the most prestigious and costly hotel of Karachi) whereas the item which he was inaugurating namely the Public Fax Machine was lying some 3 km at GPO.

Present government is also embarked on “austerity” and reduction of expenses and simplicity. It is reducing staff with more speed from different organizations by “Golden Hand Sake”. State Life is also in line on such reduction to reduce expenses. State Life has recently held its Year 2001 Convention. What a wonderful it is in this era of “austerity and simplicity” the Convention has been held at “Bhurban Muree” whereas its head office is in Karachi where plenty prestigious space is available in its building to hold such a convention. But of course problem in this was then how it could be to spend Rs. 100 but in books to show Rs. 1000 and free travel enjoyment on company expense.

    S.A.J uncle,

Will you like to share your thoughts on the latest NDFC fiasco? Since you always seem to know so much about government's inner corruption, I am sure we can use some of your insight.
