    Gunmen kill Pakistan oil chief

Karachi has a history of sectarian killings

Shaukat Mirza, the managing director of Pakistan State Oil, has been shot dead in the port city of Karachi.
Police said that Mr Mirza was killed by two gunmen on a motorbike in an upmarket area of the city while on his way to his office.

His chauffeur was seriously injured in the shooting and died later in hospital.

The BBC's Susannah Price in Islamabad says it is one of the most high-profile killings in Karachi for some time.

    Sectarian violence

Mr Mirza had been managing director of the state oil company for more than a year after working in the private sector.

Pakistan State Oil is the largest oil company in the country.

Police say they do not know the identity of the killers or their motive.

However, Mr Mirza was a Shia and Karachi has witnessed on-going violence between Shia and Sunni groups in the city.

There have been several killings by extremists on both sides.

There is no mention of the motive of the killing. Just a hint that he was a Shia.

Is that enough reason to kill some one ?? I doubt it. Does Anyone here have a theory ?

Further information on the killing was not immediately available. The murder came days after the high profile killing in Karachi of Shaukat Mirza, managing director of oil marketing firm Pakistan State Oil.

Pak Shi'ite leader shot dead in Lahore

        Reuters

Lahore, July 30: A prominent Pakistani Shi'ite preacher was shot dead in the central city of Lahore on Monday in the latest sectarian killing to hit the country, police said.

"(Syed Rizwan-ul-Hassan Shah) was sitting in his shop when two men on a motorcycle came and shot him...and killed him on the spot," a police official said. "It was a targeted sectarian killing," he added.

Shah's shop was located in an area of Lahore known to be a hub for activists from Sipah-i-Mohammad, a militant Shi'ite Muslim faction.

Pakistan has been grappling with frequent sectarian strife between militants from the majority Sunni and minority Shi'ite Muslim sects, which has claimed hundreds of lives in the past decade.
