Why cant India be Pakistan's "Sabse Pasandida Mulk"

What stops Pakistan Govt. from giving "Most Favoured Nation" status to India for bilateral trade. I think it will be a win-win situation... and is the practical thing to do... so why is the Pakistani Govt. shirking...

    Because it ain't worth it.
    It's that simple.

The last time the MUslims gave favorable trade concessions was to the East India Company. And see what happened???

I'm just being facetious guys. Sometimes I really wonder if we desis really think every thing through?? Or we just deal with the emotions and for the current moment only??

Now "CM says its not worth it" Buying coal and Pharmaceuticals from China and pay more!!! Whats the logic ?? We want to buy China's friendship by paying more for their goods . Wah Wah !!!! That is called Kow Towing!!

Why India? Why not Iran or Afghanistan or some other country? The problem between two countries is because of what goes on in Kashmir.

We (Pakistanis) cannot turn our eyes on Kashmir issue. When India will accept the Kashmir as disputed territory then, we can start a dialogue to bring peace between two countries. After that we see what can be done to make India "Sabse Pasandida Mulk".

        Tanha,

I disagree with you . We cannot start trade with India until disputes between two are resolved. Secondly if we accept your suggestion then China could buy many other things from India rather then Pakistan because it is cheap. Now how does it sounds?

Quite right..Tanhaa.. that is why I dont see the point... like I said "sar kataa sakte hain..par sar jhooka sakte nahin" seems to be Pakistan's attitude.

Insaaniat bhai, when we start trading and meeting in non-threating relationships we devlop trust and respect. that will help in dealing with the Kashmir Issue also. For 50 years we have adopted "discuss Kashmir first"
and now have nuclear weapons, but no solution.
Why not try some other strategy for say 10 years. Bi-lateral Trade and cultural relations.??? just a point to consider ???

What are we going to trade in??
              Cotton products?
              Whoops we both produce them!
              Food prodcuts??
              Whoops we both produce them!

Before we jump the gun and start off with most favoured nation status.
              Lets start basic trading!!
Like an indian here said you guys don't trust us.
And you want us to give you MFNS??

You guys live in kookoo land. You think you can compete with the Chinese... Let me give you few minor indicators.

                China exports $200B/year
                Chnia IT exports $46.1B/2001

Scan the shelves in US and see how many products are from India/Pak and China.

If we are going to import why not from China.
Pay less for a better product.

if chinese products r better and cheaper, people will buy them. even if u import indian goods, still people will buy chinese goods since they would be better and cheaper according to u. so why not allow indian goods when people are anyway not going to buy them.

the illegal cross border trade is already billion $. pakistan does not want to be economically dominated by india since it
market will be swamped. still they cant stop the illegal trade. if they can find something
that is cheaper acrosss the border he will
get it weather it is medicine or sugar.

ZZ trade is a two way thing.
Open up your cloth and food markets.
                      And we can surely trade.
But before we start on something as complex as MFNS, why not start basic trading first?

Incorrect, india wanted sugar from pakistan.
And the black market has not swamped pakistan in the key markets of food stuff or cloth etc etc.
The indian movies and stuff that is not produced in Pakistan are smuggled.

india already gave MFN status to Pak and in legal trade, Pak has a trade surplus.
of course, in smuggled goods, many more indian goods go to pak than vice verce.

Really got facts to back up that assumption of yours.
And india has given us MFNS but what has that turned into??
Can we compete in the Indian Cotton market?
                            Cloth Market?
                            Food Market?
Please answer these before we continue.

Listen guys. Why do we end up arguing as to who is better in what and how ? Lets stay with the topic. the question is

Is bilateral trade good for both India and Pakistan?? If so then why dont they trade whole heartedly ??

If bilateral trade is not good then lets discuss the reasons. Here on the internet atleast we can discuss without being little boys all the time ??
