PAF to test missiles tomorrow
By M. Arshad Sharif
ISLAMABAD, March 24: Chief Executive General Parvez Musharraf and Chief of Air Staff, Air
Chief Marshal Mushaf Ali Mir, will witness live firing of ground-to-air, surface-to-air and air-to- air
missiles by Pakistan Air Force (PAF) at Army Air Defence Range, Sonmiani, on Monday, sources
said here on Saturday.
According to these sources, the live firing of missiles will be carried out on the concluding day of the
week long exercise held as part of "PAF Missile Firing Camp 2001" at the Army Air Defence Range,
Sonmiani.
They said, the exercise is aimed at to improve the operational efficiency of the airforce by enhancing
the combat preparedness and providing realistic practical training to air-crew and weapon controllers.
"The Southern Air Command of PAF will monitor the exercise for drawing lessons to remove any
shortcomings which are identified." The exercise is made much more difficult in its later stages enabling
air-crew and weapon controllers to handle war like situations with live ammunition firing, sources
added.
According to sources, air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles would be fired from aircraft including A-5,
F-7, F-6, Mirages, MiGS and F-16s. According to PAF sources, the air-to-air missiles were for the
first time tested in April 1998.
Earlier the PAF was not able to carry out firing of these missiles against a drone or heat emitting
projectile. The firing was done piecemeal on one aircraft at a time and the results were not
satisfactory, the sources said adding that the problems identified were adequately rectified later.
According to sources, air-to-air infra red homing missiles of American and French origin, and various
types of rockets would be fired during the exercise.

This is as always excellent news.
I hope we start producing all of this soon within pakistan.
We have the capability, we just need the blueprints.
Hmmm, who could be bribe to get those????
