The age old stat of Pakistan home to the largest number of drug addicts is a very misleading and incorrect one. In Pakistan, lots of the 'addicts' are addicted to home made, or locally produced drugs that arent exactly in the same category as the hardcore drugs available in the west.

Thats not to say Pakistan doesnt have a problem, but there are plenty other countries that are in worse shape.

Why not just boil and filter the water?

You wanted a good reason, you got one.

In places where drinking water can carry disease, wine is a cheap replacement. Given regular exposure to moderate amounts, alcohol tolerance is increased to the point where the intoxicating effects are completely negated by the fact that you won't have diarrhea for the next 3 days.

    so the point is?
    wine should replace water?

why don't we do an experiment. you replace water at your place with wine. see how things turn out.. then let us know..

Wine is more sanitary than non-purified water.

sometimes people intreret to their own liking so that they dont feel guilty.
    religen influenses personal behaviour.
if you look at the aids problem it is less prevelant in islamic countries than others
    that is result of religen

somehow people dont feel guilty or they think they dont violate the religious laws by using drugs. in the west opposite is true much more stigma attached to drug use compared to alcohol use

you're just showing your ignorance about islam if you say alcohol is more haram than drugs..

they are both forbidden. end of story.

Both alcohol & drugs are substance abuse.

There is prostitution.gambling ,dowry, bride burning, child marriage, usury, all the evil islam is against,in Pakistan. But its incidence is greater in India because there is no discouragement of it in india or the west.
First there is no record keeping in tribal pakhtoon afghan area like in india & west so you can guessmate whatever you want.
ZZ,i wonder what kind of substance you r high on if you think u dont need the opium of religion.Muslims atleast use the cheapest & the best intoxication ,love of there religion!!! safe, healthy, practically usefull, reasonably purposefull, spiritually satisfying ------------ta Ta

    rvikz,

there has been a report published in UK about drug usage being at an all time high in that country, with hard drugs like ecstasy, heroin and cocaine seeing the biggest rises amonst young people who like to party.

So where does that leave your 'islam is to blame' theory?

I can provide a link to the article if you like, but I will have to do a search as the story is a few days old.

people know that its in the Quran (thats how you spell it) that both alcohol and drugs are haram.

why do ppl do it? we all know there isn't one reason.

as for the banning of alcohol.. tell me one good reason why it should be allowed..
and don't give me the lame excuse that white/red wine if taken moderately can reduce blood pressure or whatever... you can do that with healthy living..
