I would call it a positive step.. It was nice
to read that Pakistan exported something to
the largest particle physics centre in the
world...

KARACHI: The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) has completed shipment of eight Magnet Supporters for the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN). According to a PAEC press release, last four of the Magnet Supporters, have been dispatched to CERN recently, while four others were sent in June 2000. Each of the supporters weighed about 28 tonnes. They were manufactured by using 140 mm and 100 mm thick steel plates by welding them together, while its used to transmit the load to the ground and thus are important item, said a PAEC officer.
The protocol between CERN and PAEC on behalf of Government of Pakistan for the supply of Eight Magnet Supports was signed in November 1997. CERN is the world's largest particle physics centre, which was founded in 1954 and is located on the border between France and Switzerland. One of the major projects of CERN is the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), which is an accelerator, that brings protons and ions into head-on collisions at energies higher than ever achieved before.
The Magnet Supporter would allow scientists to penetrate still further into the structure of matter and recreate the conditions prevailing in the early universe, just after the big bang. All the designing for the fabrication, machining, and non-destructive testing for the Magnet Support was carried out at HMC-3, added the press release
