CM is true. There isn't anything wrong between Sindhis and Punjbis as such. But this is also a fact that provincialism is being injected into the people by politicians.

It is being propagandise that Punjabis are usurpers, occupying corridors of powers as well as top defence slots. Punjabis are also said to have held bureaucratic establishment making life miserable for other provinces, especially Sindh. However, these are all mere allegations without any logical pull.

We are Pakistanis and not Punjabi. We do not need any other label than that of being a pure and proud Pakistani. We do not want any power whatsoever, we just want to live with all who are Pakistanis. And we truly wish that all people think beyond the limitations of provincialism!

        Desert Fox,

An excellent topic, people should participate and have their views on the subject. You are right, problem definitely exist. I must say Sindh being second big province has suffered more than the other two minor provinces. In every walk of life Sindh’s share must have been second to Punjab. Bur the fact is that the condition of Sindhis are worst than even minorities such as Parsis, Agha Khanis, Boris, even Hindus. The responsibility definitely lies on the successive governments. Unfortunately the successive governments were selected, or came from back doors. They have/had one thing in mind how to prolong their power. They were/are least interested in the improvement of the life of common man.

        CM,

Problem of prejudice and race definitely exist. By closing your eyes like an ostrich will not solve the problem. You have to accept its existence. Which Politicians are you blaming? Pakistan has been mostly ruled dictators, what politicians are you talking about?

        Amal,

These are not mare allegations, these are the facts. The domination of Punjabis in every field, they do not want to share power with any other community and therefore reluctant to give breathing space to others.

Excellent topic, I wanted to say something on this topic, but I don’t know much about the problems. Just like CM’s, my conclusion would be politicians are the problem. Being a Punjabi, born and raised among Punjabis, I never heard any derogatory talk about Sindhis, or stereotypes. I’ve family and friends from Sindh; we do talk about the problems but never a Punjabi problem. Thereby I’m not saying that there is no problem, just that most of us overseas born Pakistani might not be aware of it’s existence.

Blaming Punjabis is too easy, and no problem is gonna be solved this way – so Punjabis have top ranks in Pak forces, why is that a problem? The goal is to protect the country, whoever does the job should not be a point, or should it? Why is Sindhis’ condition so bad? Pakistan has been ruled by ppl representing all of its provinces, but no leader should just go for one province alone. We can’t ignore the fact that ppl like Altaf Hussain love to kick you when you’re down – now look at his recent bakwas (excuse my language), how would a patriotic Pakistani react to his wa’z? When I was younger I used to get so irritated over his speeches and his criminal acts and I couldn’t understand that Sindhis don’t see that this person is not a friend.

Karachi being our biggest ‘money making’ city, was bound to face trouble, without discussing what’s happening and being a little more open minded about the situation we’re not help our nation. Help us understand so we know how to react or what to demand from our leaders. Tell us what has happened and what should be done in future, not that we are policy makers on this board but we should have a basic understanding of the situation.

The key to having peace between sindhis and punjabis is to first learn to criticise a wrong action, rather than refer to the person'r race. If we study Farid's statement:

The domination of Punjabis in every field, they do not want to share power with any other community and therefore reluctant to give breathing space to others.
we can see that Farid has brought into the equation a racial element. Considering that neither Jinnah, Bhutto (Zulfikar or Benazir), Sharif, or Musharraf were Punjabis, the statement seems to be based on shaky foundations anyway. I am not sure whether Ayub Khan was Punjabi, but I am sure Farid will know.

BTW, I am not convinced there is any problem b/w Sindhis and Punjabis, although I do recognise that there is a problem b/w MQM and the rest of Pakistan.

In my humble opinion, provincialism is the only problem! Go to punjab and you will see there isn't any bias against Sindhis or against any other community at all in the Punjabi ranks. Those who think that there is a problem, they should think it again only after taking out the element of provincialism!

MQM are causing this problem to get sindhis to go with them and create a new state! I am both Sindhi and Punjabi and I go to both Sindh and Punjab but I don't find anything wrong or enimity between the both!

                  Xtreme,

I will speak for ZAB and BB as they belong to Sindh so is I. Both were supported by Punjab to win the elections. They were more interested in progress of Punjab than Sindh. Their advisers were 100% Punjabis and they did not take any decision, which anger their peers and advisers. Both have done very little for Sindh, though they were in a position to improve the life of common man in Sindh. Punjabis kicked out both whenever they felt they did not need their services. ZAB was hanged in a false murder case by Punjabi General to have perpetual rule in the country.

                  Sincerely,

                    Desert Fox,

You said "I am both Sindhi and Punjabi". What do you mean by this? You are either Sindhi or Punjabi, you can not be both or can you? If you say you are Pakistani, I can udnerstand that.

Farid would you care to explain how even to this day people in Sindh - the Sindhi's are crying over Bhutto and how most Sindhi's still worship the PPP? Don't they have a mazar for ZAB in Larkana?

The fact is most Sindhi's worship the memory of ZAB - so I don't know if you are really from Sindh?

                        Mr Xtreme

Sharif is panjabi. Although he said he has Kashmiri background but he was brought up in panjab, studied in panjab and also won first seat from panjab, also his first language is panjabi. What about other Prime ministers and presidents. Like Sikander Mirza, Khuja Nizam-Ul-Din and not very old late gen. Zia-Ul-Haq.

One question I want to know is what should be criteria for selections in government department. Is being sindhi or panjabi make you qualifies automatically ort it is the merit.
Let say if for the govt. position in sindh, if you find that panjabi officer is more qualified and suited then sindhi or mahajir or vise versa for position in panjab. Who you will select?? What will be the selection criteria and will it benefits the sindh or panjab?

I think the problem is that politician now trying to play divide and rule game. They poisoning the minds of an ordinary man that panjabi's are the root of their entire problem.

I think is problem is our political system and I am sorry to say that our Ulemah also played big part in dividing the country. Our politician once elected, have no interest about problems of the people who selected them. And this goes for all politician sindhi, panjabi, blochi, pathaan. Do you think the being so many people from panjab helped panjab?? Well if want to see the truth then go and see the remote towns and villages of panjab. You will find that they are almost as deprived as the town and villages of sindh and blochistan.
What about the role of religious leaders?. I remember very well when Benzir took power for first time. Opposition got fatwa from one Imam/Mualana that woman cannot rule in muslim state. The PPP got fatwa from another Imam/Maulana that muslim woman can be head of islamic state

Though this is an important topic, but I think we have got more serious problems to deal with. But still if we want to talk or fight it out, than first we should sort out what actually are we at the very first place?

For instance, an Indian colleague of mine, a Muslim, says that "I am an Indian before anything else." He counts even his religion as No.2.

Ok, now tell me what actually are we? First Muslim? If we are Muslim than who could we restrict our universality and get embroiled in racism and regionalism? If we are first Sindhis and Punjabis, why did our forefathers fought for Pakistan, why did not they went for independent Sindh or Punjab? Shall we doubt their wisdom and sincerity?

My dear friends, we are already facing a whole lot of crises and challenges, each and everyone more deadly than the other. For God's sake, see sense and DO NOT talk of provincialism and racism. Even if this needs to be thrashed out, the present is not the poper time for this.

As I already said both have done little for Sindh. And people of Sindh remember those persons for ever who even did very little for them. No other leader had done any good to the province except looting .

Mazar of ZAB is not in Larkana but in ‘Nau Dero’ his native place.
