MP 'white paper' on Nawaz's corruption

    By Our Staff Reporter

LAHORE, Oct 11: The Millat Party on Wednesday issued what it called a white paper on the alleged Rs 193.12 billion corruption of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

Full evidence along with photocopies of relevant documents have been sent to the chief executive and the NAB chief for action, Millat Party chief organizer Muhammad Ali Durrani said at a Press conference.

He said another white paper on the alleged corruption of Ms Benazir Bhutto was being prepared and it would soon be sent to the government for action. It would also be supported by all necessary evidence, he said.

Mr Durrani urged the government to try Nawaz Sharif for his alleged misdeeds from 1981 to 1999, saying so far the government's score on the accountability front was low.

The government had so far been able to locate his alleged corruption only in the construction of his Raiwind estate's link road. In fact it was wasting its given time of three years by going slow on the accountability front, he said.

The Millat Party leader rejected elections without the completion of the accountability process.

He said a civil war and the wrath of the people could be avoided only by completing the accountability process according to their wishes. The process should be ruthless, across-the-board and transparent with an effort to recover all the looted national wealth, he added.

Replying to a question, he said party president Farooq Leghari had been highlighting the corruption of Mr Nawaz Sharif and Ms Benazir Bhutto even when he was the president of the country. Now the white paper had been prepared to make the government fulfil its obligation to conduct accountability.

He alleged that the wealth of Mr Sharif and his influence in bureaucracy had been a hurdle to the accountability of his alleged misdeeds.

But this white paper will remove all the difficulties, he claimed.

The white paper contained allegations of corruption in yellow cab scheme, motorway, plots allotments, bank loans, cooperatives scam, misuse of Tamir-i-Watan funds, and money laundering.
