Pakistan's Biggest Oil Refinery to be commissioned NEXT MONTH

Many of you might already know that Pakistan's newest and biggest oil refinery will be commisioned on Sep 30 2000. The total cost on this refinery is estimated to be $886 million, and the production capacity is at 4.5 million tonnes per/year. This refinery is located at Mahmoodkot, near Multan. It will play a significant role in an economic uplift of Multan and Dera-Ghazi Khan divisions.

On macro levels, this oil refinery will revolutionize the oil and gas energy sectors. As the country will become self-sufficient in LPG(Liquified petroleum gas), motor gasoline, and engine lubricants. This refinery will not only help meet country's requirements, but it will have 110,000 tonnes of motor-oil available for export. This will save at least $100 in import bills, anually. This refinery will also contribute $24 million in taxes.

Perhaps, the most salient feature of this refinery is its entire fabrication and erection by the Pakistani engineers. Under a foreign contractor, 26 local engineering firms got a chance to upgrade their skills to international standards.
