Pakistan - A Threat to world peace

    Sunday Mirror article.
    http://www.sundaymirror.co.uk/shtml/NEWS/P9S1.shtml
    Sunday Mirror, UK
PAKISTAN MUST ACT TO HALT THIS THREAT TO WORLD PEACE

THE export of nuclear capacity from Pakistan is a deadly threat to the region and the world.

Pakistan must stop the trade which the Sunday Mirror has exposed.

It's no good for their government to say they have no control over third parties or private companies who sell nuclear materials. If they were determined to put a stop to this they could.

When nuclear material falls into the hands of private parties parties it is a short step to getting into terrorist hands.

There is a link between Pakistan's exports of nuclear capability and terrorism. The country is rapidly becoming a threat to world peace.

I will investigate this matter and take action to alert the international community, the United Nations and other bodies as to what is going on in Pakistan.

the revolution has begun. Muslim countries who can afford this technology should be equipped with it. Saudi, Kuwait, Libya and others should all be equipped with safe nuclear technology for power generation and other purposes.

First muslim nuclear power Pakistan should help other fellow Muslim countries and resolve its economic crisis... with all the sanctions this is our only way out.

Hmmmm so let me get this straight, Pakistan can not sell nuclear technology, but the self appointed "thanay daar" of nuclear technology can?

I mean US did sell it to Israel after all, did it not and the khatara USSR in its heyday sold it to its allies...no big secret.

      So why cant other countries?

Also if you read the whole article - these undercover reporters got this info from a tribal leader in FATA - who actually believes in their right minds that a tribal leader can get material from military held bases??
I swear that the british are really stupid!!!
You can't fix stupid. So might as well troll them!

Weapons of mass destruction are immoral..No two ways about it..Anything that kills unarmed civilians is against the principles of war.
It was wrong in hands of the five members , and it is wrong for anyone who follows..
            Fraudia,
I disagree with your information , that Americans exported nuclear technology to Israel...They have followed the policy of looking teh other way , which they did with pakistan too , from 1983 when first cold tests were conducted , till 90 , when pakistan lost her utility ...
Isreal from the very begining had a very advanced nuclear programme, which went parallel to and in colleboration with the french...Isreal had the good fortune of getting highly trained physicists from Germany.

I still dont agree. It can be a country's internal decision whether to sell or not. agreed that it effects global balance of power etc etc, but so did actions of other countries.

Did burkina faso object to the "star wars" program..nope.

was iran able to stop US sales of arms and ammunition to Iraq? nope..

Its by the same token, do rules change because it is Pakistan or because it is nuclear technology...who writes the rules..?

as far as US involvement in Israeli nuclear programmes. I will have to find some info unless someone else has access to it.

What is big deal with nuclear weapons? Technology of 1940's. Japan can make a nuclear bomb over a weekend.

Fraud Yara, there is an excellent book “The Samson Option” by Saymour Hersh. It is about how Israel acquired nukes. You be the judge.

I agree with Nova, USA looked the other way. Many Israeli nuclear physicists were way ahead of the guys who worked on the Manhattan Project.

Using nuclear technology for development purpose is fine, but one needs an infrastructure to be able to deal with the nuclear waste. Education comes in handy at that times. With nations, e.g., Libya or Iran, who haven’t figured out how to refine oil, need a lot of groundwork before pursuing nuclear ambitions. It is not a kids play.

NY nothing is kids play here..
Nuclear technology is nothing to kid around with.
But these countries have been kept from getting control in other areas as well. Without heavy western technical and personnel support do you think that these countries can even manage their petroleum waste and by products?
The question then becomes, why are they not technically competent to handle a basic function of an industry upon which their economy is based.

Anyways, that is a different discussion.

By this token if pakistani scientists chose to "immigrate" to other countries and jump start their nuclear programmes its fine and other nations should look away. A ridiculous idea? or something that took place in Israel by the emigrating eastern europeans?

The thing nowerdays is that military strenght in the third world is the only strenght.
Nuclear weapons are not the solution.
They must first build infrastructure and education.
Pakistan now has the bomb - end of story.
Now we must work on our economy and education services.
The IT plan is good, but with no grass roots of education, this plan is as good as Clinton dening the monica thing.
We have the bomb and leave it at that.
Now we need to work on the basic needs of humanity.
Also the CTBT is a far away thing.

                          Peer Jee.

I am not saying that it is good for anyone to acquire nuclear weapons. For the lack of technical sophistication among our Arab friends… no one but themselves are to be blamed. There is only one “world class” petroleum college in Saudi Arabia (Petromen U), and One in Iran (Abidan IT), none in any other nation. One would have thought that oil being their bread and butter they would realize to build a few institutions of research and development. To make it worst, these schools are staffed with foreigners. Oil producing nations have wasted their resources on silly things and have paid very little attention to building institutions. But you are right, it is another debate.

Those migrant scientists who came to Israel to avoid persecution in their nations are not to be compared with Pakistani scientists going over to Iraq to set up some nuke facilities. Those scientists didn’t do it for money.

WHY are we missing the issue here??
These so called nuclear weapons in their report(of this taboid) are russian and not pakistani!!Whether or not pak has the right to export nuclear technology(which of course it does)is not the issue here.
The responsibility for this lies entirely on Russia.Nuclear weapons are not toys,to be left behind. It was russia's RESPONSIBILITY to account for each and every one of their warheads. And as for the west they made sure that all russian warheads at the time of breakup of Soviet Union were accounted for(Or so they said). So how come are they now saying that there were nuclear warheads in AFGHANISTAN!It's either false or the west and UN have been terribly incompetent!!
I personally think it is false because can anyone imagine the world remaining quiet for so long about atomic weapons in AFGHANISTAN???And if these materials have only now come out of russia then who is responsible.Them or pak???
