    The Golden era...

I have heard time and again, that Ayub khan's time was pakistan's golden age...
Politicians were sidelined(in this context politicians are always described as corrupt and inept)..economy was booming, and
Being a moderate , fundamentalism wasnt tolerated...
Last evening some friends used this argument frequently , to justify or delude themselves into thinking that Musharaf would repeat this performance....
what we conveniently fail to see is that, the price for those ten years of political stagnation , and lack of constitutional means of expression resulted in the Birth of Bangladesh...The single tracked rigidity of Martial Law did not allow acceptance and modification of policies required to deal with the growing dissatisfaction ....
Ayub's pakistan was pakistan of 60's, when population was half that of today , most of the ppl involved in running the institutions were Indian trained, and cold war had magnified pakistan's importance , much more then she would have deserved on her own...
Ayub's era did more harm in the long run, then good, under circumstances much better then todays.....If that was the best army has to offer , I wonder what they can do with the best of their intentions today..when situation is much dirty and requires a degree of flexibility , and understanding of socio-political phenomenon which is impossible to be delivered by Army...

Pakistan was a colony of America.
Pakistan is a colony of America.
Pakistan will remain a cology of America

    Pakistanis were obsessed with West.
    Pakistanis are obsessed with West.
Pakistanis will remain obsessed with West.

Until this changes, nothing will change.

Ayub lived in simpler times. had more international backing, particularly from west. pakistan had good image in muslim countries that time.

on musharraf's visit in Malasia, Malasia clarified that they had not invited Musharraf, but Musharraf himself requested visit. Turkish primeminister declined to visit Pakistan despite request by Pak govt.. Indonesian primeminister did not visit Pak when he visited India. Pak is suspended from two international fora already and NAM may follow suit.

Pak was never as isolated as ever before. India is unlikely to resume dialogue anytime soon. They will let Pak stew in its juice till they can pick up dialogue at its own terms.

ZZ - maybe you would like to remember that no so very long ago the USA completely shunned IRAN, LIBYA and VIETNAM - these states were defamed as fundementalist, terrorist or communist dictatotships. Was it not America that fought and lost a war against Vietnam?, was it not America that bombed Libya in 1986?, was it not America that supported Iraq against Iran in their war?

Is it not true that the USA maintained full economic sanctions against these countries until this year? I hear America is also making up with SERBIA, despite bombing it to smitherenes over Kosovo last year. And despite holding an unsuccessful 41 year plus gridge against CUBA, over the 'Elian Gonzalez' custody dispute? It is also willing to be more accepting to NORTH KOREA.

SO PATIENCE PAKISTAN - THE USA AND THE WORLD CANNOT IGNORE A NUCLEAR POWERED NATION OF NEARLY 150 MILLION PEOPLE FOR LONG!
