Raipur (Madhya Pradesh), September 18: India will continue its efforts to get Pakistan internationally declared as a terrorist state for abetting state-sponsored terrorism, Union Home Minister L K Advani said on Saturday. Talking to journalists at the Raipur Press Club, Advani said India will constantly endeavor to put international pressure on Pakistan as it felt that innocent people became victims of terrorism. He said that during his talks with the foreign ministers visiting India in the past few months, it was impressed upon all to make joint efforts against the Pakistani-sponsored terrorism.
The Union Home Minister said he had taken note of Saudi dissident Osama bin Laden’s statement issued from Pakistan recently appealing to launch a jehad and declaring both India and the US as enemies. He said Laden’s statement indicated the dangers ahead. Advani, however, declined to reveal the action plan mooted by the Indian government in the context of the threat from Laden saying the government was on its job.
Advani said that after Pakistan’s defeat in 1971, Islamabad had mooted the scheme for a proxy war and the ISI was given the main role. Since the Vajpayee government assumed charge, he said, serious efforts were made to search out ISI elements and the results were encouraging. A few days ago, a prominent ISI agent had been arrested in Calcutta, he said, adding action against ISI agents will continue. Advani admitted that even during the Kargil conflict infiltration from Pakistan continued and the issue was discussed at a high-level meeting with the Prime Minister a few days ago. Doubts were also expressed over the involvement of the ISI in circulating fake currency in the country, he added.
