Clinton asks Vajpayee to hold talks with Pakistan

WASHINGTON, July 20: US President Bill Clinton spoke on Tuesday with Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee on
Mujahideen's pullout from occupied Kashmir and urged both countries to launch peace talks.
"He told the prime minister he was pleased to see the Line of Control restored," said White House spokesman P.J. Crowley. "And
he encouraged the prime minister to enter into direct dialogue with Pakistan as soon as possible."-
In London, British Prime Minister Tony Blair also called upon Pakistan and India to return to the Lahore process and resume bilateral talks, adds NNI.
A statement issued by Blair's office quoted him as saying that the recent fighting highlighted "the need for Pakistan and India to work together to resolve their outstanding issues, including Kashmir."
Welcoming the resolution of the crisis, Blair praised Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for taking "early action" after the July 4 talks with US President Bill Clinton.
Blair asked both countries to respect the Line of Control (LoC) and to resume the dialogue initiated in Lahore early this year.
