Pakistan’s fallen soldiers honoured by UN

Pakistans fallen soldiers honoured by UN
    Sunday 30-05-2005

Washington: The 20 Pakistanis honoured by the United Nations on Friday for having laid down their lives in the service of international peace all belonged to the Pakistan army, ranging from Lieutenant Colonel to sepoy.

The 20 men who were decorated with the Dag Hammarskjld Medal, accepted on their families behalf by Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry, acting Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations, are: Naik Muhammad Safdar, Sepoy Mumtaz Khan, Signalman Iftikhar Ahmad, Naik Muhammad Amir, Major Hasnain Anwar, Lieutenant Colonel Zia ud Din, Havildar Muhammad Iqbal, Lance Havildar Muhammad Jahangir, Lance Naik Muhammad Jamil, Sepoy Ahmed Khan, Lieutenant Colonel Faiz Ullah Khan, Lieutenant Colonel Riaz Ahmed Khokhar, Captain Waqas Ahmed Mirza, Sepoy Nazir Muhammad, Captain Murtaza Khalil Siddiqui, Sepoy Muhammad Zulfiqar, Naib Subedar Iftikhar Ahmed, Naik Afzaal Ahmed, Naik Muhammad Hayat and Sepoy Ziarat Hussain.

The first 18 served in the United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone and the last two in the United Nations Mission in Burundi.

Chaudhry said at the ceremony that honoured the Pakistani soldiers and other peacekeepers who had lost their lives in the service of peace, Pakistan is proud to be one of the oldest, largest and most consistent contributors to UN peacekeeping. Pakistan has served in 31 peacekeeping operations since 1960 and is presently the largest contributor with 9,782 peacekeepers. Eighty-eight Pakistani peacekeepers have so far laid down their lives while serving in UN Missions. This is the most concrete manifestation of Pakistans contribution to the maintenance of international peace and security. khalid hasan

Just why can't the brutal 700,000 Hindu troops in the Hindustan Occupied kashmir be so peaceful as the Pakistani soldiers, I ask the Hindus?

why is pakistan troops used for other nations agendas.

the sierra leone expedition for example is nothing but a mission to control the diamond trade for the British and the pak troops are used to protect this blood business.

There were Muslims dying in the war in Sierra Leone, and less Muslims are dying there now because of the peace Pakistan is helping to enforce. Besides which, the provision of peacekeepers has strengthened ties between the Muslim-led government of Sierra Leone and Pakistan. It helped make sure the elected Muslim-led government of the 60% Muslim country was not overthrown by foreign backed, Christian-led rebels.

When those bufoons are disturbing the peace in a mainly muslim country, and we have the means to help subdue them, then it's without doubt right for Pakistan to do what it can.

One of my cousines was in Seara Leone for more than a year. pak army did a wonderfull job there. My cousine was saying that when we go on the streets, little kids would start shouting Pakistan zindabad. I have some interesting pictures that he sent me from there, including the ones from the helicopter crash that killed 28(?) Pakistani soldiers.

I said "where we have the means".

Pakistan does not have the war materials needed to win a conflict against Russia (not enough ammunition or weapons, for example), and neither does Pakistan have the economic means to be able to pay for such a war.

In Sierra Leone, Pakistan is faced with a force that we can subdue at zero financial cost (the UN pays all expenses), and where we have more than enough firepower to prevent the rebels from continuing military activity.
