responsible/reliable NGO's you personally know about

Im reasonably sure I've opened a thread about this before, but I dont know where that went.

Anyway, perhaps please post the links of responsible/reliable NGO's that you know are operating actively and transparently in Pakistan.

If you wish to make zakat/sadqa payments, nothing better than sponsoring underpriveleged children for example.

Please also write a testimonial about the organization you talk about.

    From someone I know:

This is in newyork city but DiL's (Developments in Literacyp-- http://www.4dil.org ) work is quite encouraging and relevant to the current debate on education. For those inclind, you may support their cause through your contributions. I've personally visited a couple of their schools in Rawalpindi suburbs where they are doing a good job with very limited resources. Dil is trying to open at least a school each in each of Pakistan's four provinces and the last time I spoke to Fiza Shah a Dil boardmember--they were in the process of setting one up in lower punjab and interior baluchistan. Please visit their website and decide for yourselves.

I personally detest NGOs. I find them ignorant, narrow-minded and unwilling to work with the organizations they work against. Specifically in the WTO field. I worked in Pakistan for 2 months and contacted the various NGOs after i had such a good time at ICTSD.

I worked with 4 NGOs. Out of which i had to control myself from telling one to change his job and another one to take a course on what to say to someone you have just met.

I met with representatives from ActionAid Pakistan, SDPI, Sungi and The Network. I was appalled at the lack of knowledge and how the people were just unwilling to see the otherside of the story.

SDPI was better on face value but they lacked information and general knowledge on WTO issues and basic economcis.
You can't fix stupid. So might as well troll them!

the READ foundation which is the Rural Educational and Development Foundation is one organization that has been doing good honest work silently wihtout much fuss and publicity. they majorly concentrate on educating children from poor families in backward areas and other deserving children who would without help not have the opportunity to acquire education at all. they do not have a website, but anyone interested in contacting them can have their phone numbers in karachi or their office address from me. The patron or chief officer whatever the designation, is Colonel retd. Ashfaq Husain, who is a very nice person himself.

If you really want to help, you should give support to www.SAYA.org. A NYC based organization that is transparent, helps pakistani kids achieve their fullest through academic, safe space and personal counseling services.

For more information, visit the website or contact Matsui through a PM.
