    Shaheen-II test next month

Pakistan will testfire next month its long-range, solid fuel Shaheen-II missile capable of carrying nuclear and conventional warheads up to 2000 km, General Musharraf said Thursday. “We are continuing our missile and nuclear programmes,” Musharraf said. He said during the last four years Pakistan had rapidly developed its nuclear and missile technology to maintain the deterrence level. The foremost objective, he said, was to attain quantified deterrence level. “Now this has gone beyond that level and we are still continuing.” He said Pakistan was a recognized nuclear and missile state and its strategic assets were under the National Command Authority which was an effective command and control system.

Shaheen-II missile will be test fired from Sonmiani launching facility and it will land at its target in the Arabian Sea. Pakistan Navy will supervise the landing of the missile that can carry payload up to one tonne. Shaheen-II is three times the size of Shaheen-I, which could reach at its target 800 km away.

    Praise Be To Allah

Indeed it's a very good news for the Land of Pure. Also IMO, the timing is superb, will calm the people of Pakistan after the whole nuclear saga...

Pls pardon my rather basic question, but isn't Ghauri 2 also has 2,000 kms range? Is the difference in pay-load?

I think you'll find the range spectrum is more like 1500 the new ShaheenII is a solid fuel propelled rocket which is capable of reaching greater lengths due to lesss weight, another plus point is that the fule is safer then Liquid Propellant and is much much lighter, this shows pakistans systems are indeed much more advanced now, then they were in 1998 Mashallah!

Damn all those idiots who spread our secrets to other lands for a fue dollars!!! Fools!!!

We already have one with similar range, but I think Shaheen II is solid fuel which can be launched in few minutes.

Mashallah, lets hope someone doesn't secretly sell the missile to India.

Shaheen has range of 2,500 km not 2000km. They only publised it as 2000 since it might itch israel and its fathers that Pakistan can target it. If you notice when mr Khurshid was being interviewed by cnn, he said we won't go beyond 2000km unless there is threat perception, etc. Its not that hard to increase range of the missile.

Pakistan about to test missile that extends range

Pakistan will soon test for the first time a new nuclear-capable missile, the Shaheen II, which could reach all of India's cities. "You should expect this flight test anytime, shortly," Foreign Ministry spokesman Masood Khan told reporters on Monday. Pakistan has said the missile has a range of over 2,000 km, although one Pakistani newspaper has reported its range could be as high as 3,000 km. The new missile exceeds the 1,500-km reach of the Ghauri, previously Pakistan's longest-range missile which some say was developed with North Korean help.

Pakistan says its weapons programme is a response to that of nuclear-armed rival India, with which it has fought three wars since independence from Britain in 1947. The planned test of the Shaheen II comes amid intense scrutiny of Pakistan's nuclear programme after revelations its scientists sold nuclear secrets to Iran, North Korea and Libya. "Our strategic force goals are guided by the concept of minimum credible deterrence and that's why we have to test these missiles from time to time," Khan said. The test comes amid warming ties between Pakistan and India, and Khan said the two rivals had a policy of informing each other ahead of a missile test. Khan said the aim of the test would be to ensure its missile "reach" was sufficient to deter aggression and "prevent military coercion".

                            Pakistan tests nuclear-capable missile
                            By Tahir Ikram

ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - Pakistan successfully test fired on Tuesday an intermediate-range nuclear-capable ballistic missile that it says can reach all the cities of neighbouring India.

The Pakistani military said in a statement the surface-to-surface Shaheen II missile was tested successfully.

"The two-stage Shaheen II Missile System, which has been indigenously developed by Pakistani scientists and engineers, can carry all types of warheads up to 2,000 km (1,250 miles)," it said.

There was no immediate confirmation of the capabilities of the missile, and India, which has a vigorous missile development programme of its own, offered no immediate response to the news.

Pakistan says its weapons programme is a response to that of nuclear-armed rival India, with which it has fought three wars since both countries won independence from Britain in 1947.

The statement said Pakistan had informed neighbouring countries about the test as a "confidence-building" measure.

The test came after Israel last week concluded a deal to sell India a strategic airborne radar system despite warming ties between Islamabad and New Delhi.

Pakistan says the new missile exceeds the 1,500-km (930-mile) reach of the Ghauri, previously its longest-range missile, which some experts say was developed with North Korean help.

The test of the Shaheen II comes amid intense scrutiny of Pakistan's nuclear programme after revelations that its scientists sold nuclear secrets to Iran, North Korea and Libya.

"Our strategic force goals are guided by the concept of minimum credible deterrence and that's why we have to test these missiles from time to time," Foreign Ministry spokesman Masood Khan said on Monday.

Khan said India and Pakistan had a policy of informing each other ahead of missile tests.

He said the aim of the test would be to ensure the "reach" of the missile was sufficient to deter aggression and "prevent military coercion".

India concluded a deal last week to buy an Israeli Phalcon airborne radar system, which Pakistan has complained will threaten its security and require steps to keep a balance between the two countries.

The Phalcon system can detect aircraft hundreds of km (miles) away, can intercept radio transmissions, and put large parts of Pakistan under Indian surveillance, including disputed Kashmir, which has been the trigger for two of the rivals' three wars.

But the arms disagreement has not stopped a thawing in relations that has led to a reopening of air, bus and rail links. The two countries are due to hold peace talks in May or June on all issues in dispute, including Kashmir
