    Hire Freeze

pls help me figure this out..why would a company ask a person to travel (on the company's expense) all the way from the east coast to the west coast, to tell the candidate before the interview even starts that they have a 'hire freeze' due to budget cuts plus share prices gone down sth sth...and wont be hiring him/her?

its such a pot of doo-doo

Even though they say that sometimes if the candidate is convincing enough they may be willing to make an exception.

Also the right firms dont just view recruiting as a way to get people when they need them but rather as a way to develop long term relationships with the right people and schools. You never know when an interview like this would result a call in the future because the candidate impressed the hiring manager so much and they remember him when the hiring freeze is over.

I would say if you are the person who is invited to interview, definately go there if you can and if nothing else use it network. You never know, if you impress them they may be willing to pass on your resume to others who are looking for employees.
