How can you force yourself to a read a text book that you don't like? Any tips?

Clear your desk - grab a large mug of hot coffee - lock the door - and start reading. As soon as you get tired - grab a huge sip of the coffee - then go back to reading. That should work. Unless you're an econ major in which case nothing can help you!!http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/smile.gif

I know that you believe that you understood what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/ok.gif good advice... works for me..

You can always make the coffee very strong so that you winge everytime you sip it. That wakes you up. Junk food also helps.

Qrius, Take my advise, dont go for the "coffee treatment", this may be good for guys but for us girls, too much coffee (coffin) is no good, it kills the brain cells just look at who--me. http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/biggrin.gif

I would say if you finish that book go and buy yourself a pair of shoes or some new cloths and enjoy http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/hula.gif till you pick your next book.

Someone i know did this and it helped them.

They took posters of things that related to their profession, for example if they wanted to be a doctor, they had posters of doctors, medical supplies, etc...and posted them all over their study area...then they took posters and pictures of children in hospitals and posted them up, or adults needing care...it all related to their line of study...

so...whenever they felt they didnt want to read or study, they would just LOOK UP at the POSTERS! It helped remind them what they are there to read the books for, the people they will help in the future... the pay off for a few hours of studying a day...

so thats my suggestion! might sound silly but it worked for that person, it just might work for you!

Qurie..I have trouble paying attention to my textbooks...keep yawning and tryin to find an excuse to get me out of the readings.... yet when I read a novel I'm so engrossed in it and I want to keep reading and reading and reading.

I love to read....just not textbooks!!!!!

                    Qrius,
Sometimes just dreading doing something makes the task much worse that it is. So tell yourself that it isn't so bad and that you enjoy that subject. Keep at it everyday so that you don't have a huge pile of work at the end of the week or semester.

Before you start your reading do something social so your mind won't be like, " I want to call so and so"

                    G'luck with your studies!
