Fellowship offer for Oxford center for Islamic Studies

Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, UK offers fellowship
ISLAMABAD: The Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies (OCIS) has invited applications from citizens of Saarc countries for a Ford Foundation Visiting Fellowship at the Centre from October 1, 2001. The closing date for applications is 27 July 2001, British Council officials said.
Applicants should be scholars or writers at the post-doctoral or equivalent level. Selection will be based upon the merits and significance of the applicant's proposed or current research.
The fellowship is offered to support study in any area of the arts, humanities or the social sciences that has relevance to the study of Islam or the Muslim world. The Ford Foundation Fellow will be expected to devote most of his or her time to research and writing on their own projects and to participate in the Centre's academic and social activities.
The fellowship carries a stipend of pound 1,000 per month plus a housing allowance of pound 700 per month. Fellows will be provided with office space and access to libraries. Fellowships are tenable for ten months.
The Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies is an associated institution of Oxford University and has links with universities and research centres throughout the world. Its primary purpose is to promote a more informed understanding of Islam and the Islamic world by means of research and advance study.
The Centre encourages multidisciplinary studies and its academic focus is not restricted to any one discipline or region. Further details regarding the role and responsibilities pertaining to this award and application forms may be obtained from the Awards Secretary, Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, George Street, Oxford, OX1 2AR, UK, or the web site www.oxcis.ac.uk or by e-mailing [email protected].
Applications should include a brief description of research interests. Two referees familiar with the applicant's work should be requested to send letters of recommendation direct to the Awards Secretary.
