    Unplug the Tub!

Say, when u unplug a tub filled with water, the water drains in a circular motion following a particular direction (I have not quite noticed clockwise or anti-clockwise). Is there any law which this motion follows? I mean, what decides the direction in which it circles?

Please see the attached link. I have taken the quote from there:
    http://www.channel4.com/equinox/seas_vortex.html

'There is a popular myth that says that the direction that water spirals in as it forms the vortex above the plughole depends on whether the bath is in the northern or southern hemisphere. The spurious reasoning for this is based on an effect called the Coriolis force. The Coriolis force arises due to the rotation of the earth, and whilst it is true that the direction of rotation of a hurricane is determined by the hurricane's position north or south of the equator, the Coriolis force is much too weak to determine the direction in which water will spiral down a plughole. The shape of the bath and the turbulence which exists in the water is much more likely to affect the spiral direction.'
