    internet startups

My former company just filed for chapter 11.
They beat my prediction by almost a month. I had predicted the chain of events with approximate timelines way before I quit the company and everything came true and in the right timeframe. I am just glad that I left when I did and even helped my technical lead guy get a job with my current company.

regardless, I was talking to some other friends who have worked with startups and the conclusion was that you have to be very careful, although a startup experience is always appreciated but if you work long hours for less money and stock options and then the company goes under...where does that leave you.

One of my pals left a well known internet auction company for the same reasons he was putting in insane hours and all. left went to work for a consulting powerhouse and is making similar money, less hours and more perks. His previous company shares down to 1/4th of their initial price means that many who thought they made tons of money actually did not.

Its funny, but my former company owed people money and offered more stock options in return...and the statement made by someone was even if you double the stock options, 2 times zero is still zero.

what do you say? I just say, there aare tons of startups out there, all of them looking for talent..but only a few with a good business proposition and sustainable growth potential.

for all thise how read "the may report" on chicago high tech scene. My former company made headlines 3 days in a row about their unethical practices and lack of vision.

Its such a big show now, the same people had stakes in 2 diff comanies that I was involved in and treated employees very unfairly. Now there is a sepaate website not just a dissfest, but Ilinois state attorney general is looking into this mess. So is IRS and what nots.

I mean sometimes you leave a company and wish it go to go hell. In this case..it happened.

dont go by the crude name but it documents the downfall of all the dot coms out there..and believe me there are tons of them.

Yeah, I got the ****ing site.
Those ****ers have really done a good job of it.But the thing that ****s me is that they have their ****ing name (i.e. ****company.com) printed in bold on the top of the page which makes it difficult for me to browse in my ****ing office as my ****ing colleagues might think that it is a ****ing porn site...**** man !!

yeah the name is a problem. I was talking to one of the guys who started the thing and he said that it is a pun at FastCompany magazine because it is so internet and new economy focused, they even used the same dyamn font and colours as FastCompany. Wonder when a lawsuit will follow.

Fraudia...u r right. I too work in a start-up..in the silicon valley...more and more dot-com startups are falling by the wayside..that's probably due to dot-coms being so easy to set up that most e-companies are established without a proper business/revenue model. And before the founders realise that , the funding dries up !!

                      As someone said

a good, sound idea is much harder to come by than ideas that sound good.
