    My Boss

...is totally uncomfortable around me.. I can tell.
Like she talks to everyone very friendly but when it comes to me she is very to the point and stutters..

maybe she doesnt know you that well...perhaps u should talk more often when u see ur boss in lunch time or outside the office somewhere and should talk to her. Break that ice!
Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm. Courage is the ladder on which all the other virtues mount.

hmmm.. sounds good.. but the problem is I'm a veryintrinsic person at work.. and I think thats actually been keeping me from getting promoted.

I dont feel right having to brown nose to get anywhere.. shouldnt it be on merit.. which I have allot of..

Muniya, but there is a difference between brown-nosing and just talking to your boss. Unless you feel that talking to your boss automatically means you are trying to earn brownie points, but I dont think this is the case. What the discussion consists of is the differentiating factor.

Don't turn an asset into a liability. In order to progress in any corporate environment, you need to be competent and have good networking with your collegues and bosses. It means, being friendly and professional in your dealings with them.

ps. By the way, what exactly do you mean by "very intrinsic" person at work?

            What is an intrinsic person?

vaisey...you wil never meet or work with everyone you like. The key is to fake out the ones you don't like by liking them. :-)

              Some really good advice here.

I am very polite and professional with everyone. But the emphasis here is on helping each other paint thier houses going out for drinks.. talking about sports..

None of which I have in common. I mean I am a student dont have time for much else. Dont drink so I dont feel comfy hanging out while everyone literally gets plastered.

By instrinsic I meant I keep to myself.. my first priority is what I do and I am very good at that.. which makes matters worst because most of our clients as for me by name...

Sure you don't have anything in common with them but would it kill you to mingle out of the office environment with them? Possibly plan a get together at a restaurant or be the designated driver when they can't drive.
