Wireless network

I bought a Siemen's wireless dsl/cable router and adapters. It works ok..but only 90% of the time...rest of the 10% of times it hangs up...boradband connection feels like I am on 16K modem and it is year 1994. Secondly, the term Network is misnomer. It is only wireless connection to Internet..It is not a true network. I can not see my other computers. Basically I installed last weekend and I am already pulling my hairs(from my head..in case Roman is reading this).

Anyway...I know there are some real nerds around here. I need help. I want the best wireless network that $250 can buy. I want to share 2 printing devices, a scanner and 3 computers. Any suggestions? Quickly! I am ready to buy today if right advice pours in.

do an ipconfig /all on your command line and post results here .. also do post results from:

ping your_gateway_ip obtained from the ipconfig above


What are the ip addresses of other machines in your network? are you getting ip rom the wireless device within the same range?

what happens when you move closer to the device? Does the speed increase? (check at bandwidth.com) .. try placing the device around the room.. maybe some electrical equpi is messing up wiht it ..

if u must replace ur device, i am sure many here will input .. i like linksys ...

Hello Chan ji.!! here are my thoughts.... Before I open my big mouth I thought I let you know I am an EX CCIE with 10 years cisco routers and switches experience. I am little rusty now coz I have changed my profession since early 2000. How ever in your case IF you have a wirless router then the wirless link between your PC and the router is considered layer one and two of the OSI model. I don't know what kind of frame type is used between the two wirless end points. Or is there some propritory link between the two?? You should ping the router and the PC from outside (another PC) and see the round trip time difference between the two or do a traceroute it will list all the hopes with time difference.

The delay could be anywhere from your PC to the router or from your router to the uplink. Narrow it down to the offending device and then take it from there.


BTW could you let us know the model of the router or a link to technical details.

CCIEs were good in those days now I am sure there must be a lot more and one day there will be dime a dozen I guess just like CNE... The good think about CCIE was it was tough and expensive but my co. paid for it all the way training and exam. ... I did not recertify so I lost my certification.... Now I manage beta trials mostly VoIP products thats why I have a free phone service at home Sorry its a secret can't tell how.. My title is Beta Trials Manager.... But I still miss routers thats why I jumped in this thread and opned my big mouth.
