If they do decide to do it, I'm sure it will work.

First they wanted to have as many users of internet as possible. Now they want to get rid of about 60% of the pakistani internet users

Anyhow, great decision. Once it is implemented, it will shed a great load from bandwidth.

At least it'll force them to use the internet as a learning tool instead of wasting online time on pornography.

Thats wrong. The net should be a free for all on all types of stuff-regulating the internet makes us no better then the communist Chinese and there repressive Govt.

Porn or not, thats the freedom of choice of the ppl who look at it-but blocking it is an ifringement of their rights to do so.

If you are asking about whether its gonna work ... then I bet me horses on it that it will work ... how they gonna do it ? Proxy. They will put up a proxy server which will by pass all requests. So ... no more porn guys .... (thumbs up)
This is a decision they should have taken long back. It kicks ass here in Dubai. Most of the sites are blocked. They are doin a good job

Unfortunately it is not that simple. There are many countries in the world where the Adult sites are not even rated as Adult or have no ratings or certificate system at all.

There are ways to block majority of them but in the long run it will not work out and simply the government will end up either blocking the complete access or no restrictions at all.

They should educate people instead of blocking websites...

How about just trusting that your citizens are decent enough ppl not to look at pron 24/7-as opposed to banning it.

Thats just crazy, would you support a ban on porn in the west?

Most of end users get still get their connection from non PTCL ISPs. So stopping porn totally is virtually impossible, unless we go to the 1997 idea of National Access Points (NAPs) and filter everything there. Which IMO will lead to a lot more censoring (Indian sites etc) than just porn.

Please dont agree with me. I dont want anything to be banned (maybe porn, only because it wastes a lot of bandwidth).

Religiously it is the duty of the rulers of the country to implement the law prohibiting Adults sites or access to them.

It is possible to block them but then "aataly main ghin bhee pissay ga" means that if they block adult sites they ban might effect some or many genuin non-adult sites too (depending upon the content). Then rulers of Pakistan will start banning CNN & BBC etc etc so that the nation is not able to see what is exactly happening in the world. CNN are lairs anyway, I only trust BBC.

The otherway is to publish a list of prohibited sites & control to the URLs & ask the users to sign that if they found out visiting prohibited sites they can be charged with an offence, violating the law. Or just bring a new law. Offenders can always be traced through TCS (Transparent Caching System) with the help of ISPs. This system is already implemented in Western Countries.

Even I am being monitored while typing this message though we are ISP ourselves & I can by-pass TCS if I want to.

                            ------

Someone mentioned human right. Yep accessing internet is a human right but depends why do u access it. Pedofiles have the human right to access the internet but not a single bit of any right to download the child pronography. The human right has to be described in that sense because it might be a human right of one human on the cost of the life of another one.

Human right to access the internet is OK for legal & lawful purpose & if the law of the land say no pornography then the humans living in that country do not have any right to access the pornography of any kind on the internet. If they do, they can be charge with an offence against the law of the land.

personally, i dont' think that accessing internet is a human right. Its a privilege which can be revoked if used improperly. Now you can start a debate as to what is a right and what is a privilege, which is going to be wasteful in this thread.

I also think that pronography should be banned but i am not sure how exactly that should be done. Is the government going to ban access to the list of sites? cause thats just impossible. I read somewhere that on average, there are about 100 adult sites being put up on the internet daily. people host them on adult webhosts and non adult hosts like geocities (even though they dont' stay there for long)

When i was in high school, our school implemented a system that would by default block most of the internet out, including sites on free hosting like geocities etc. We had to personally email the admin of the system to allow access to some specific site. Now thats not gonna work on a national basis.

so lets see how it works out and lets just hope for the best
