space on HDD used but unused ???

Hi,
one problem!
One of my HDD partition is 2gig, and its showing 1.93 gig used, but I had doubt so I checked the size of all files, it is showing me 1.32 gig, including hidden files, now
1.93-1.3= 600 MB ? where this is ?
any Idea ?
how do I check for this space ?

I suppose u r using the great WINDOWS

The problem could be any yaar...its windows... someof the possible ones could be ..... stuff in ur recycle bin.... virtually memory was being used when something happened (power faluire or software malfunction) those pages are still in HD with indexes. A possible Virus, .... something like .... lets say ke open a notepad.... write just one letter in it ...save the file & check its properties... the file size would be like few bytes but the size of disk will be alot much larger (depends on ur file system) this is bcos it will use the whole cluster.... so if u have soo many files as such (urs or created by viruses) that could also be a reason.

Ata, download and install this programme. Spacemonger

It will show you the exactly how much disk space is in use, and what files are using that space. That includes, hidden and system files.

Still, there must be some explaination to why you cant see the files using +/- 600Megs of disk space.

Let me know, if your problem is solved.. :-)

Window is fine yar ... yeah you are right some virus can increase the sixe of HDD, but in this case I have checked the size of all hidden and shown files and I was having 6Gig missing ...so I thought may be its being used in as FTP or File server etc, but not the case
