    Camel Meat recipe

    AoA All,

    Belated Eid Mubarik to everyone

I need ideas about using camel meat. My sister did a camel qurbani this eid and we have big pieces of the meat now and have no idea what/how to cook. I tried to find online but could only find stuffed camel recipes

I have heard people make kabab (shami kabab) of it.I have also heard that the the meat is kinda dry and tough,so I guess kabab or sth like that will be a better option.

Camel meat is sunnah Believe me watching it being sacrificed by the 'nahar' way was an experience! I read prophet Mohammed (pbuh) did it the 'nahar' way for 63 camels himself once.

BBQ and shami is a good option. I was thinking about shawerma too but even bbq'd can be used for that purpose ...

Camel meat is VERY tough. You will need to cook it in a pressure cooker for about 4 hours, or overnight and a day in a regular pot. You can slow roast it in the oven for about 8 hours. You can basically make any recipe from it, but keep in account the additional cooking time required. I do NOT recommend BBQing it, as it becomes tougher and drier. Any recipe cooked in a sauce, with tomatoes, broth, etc will help to keep it moist. It is well worth the extra cooking time, as it is delicious!

Automne77 it is either sacrificed with a 'naiza' i think an arrow in english or the nahar way where one of it's leg is tied folded and a sharp knife is swiped (while the camel is standing) in an expert way on a specific point in it's neck. It bled like anything but was on the floor within fraction of seconds, much quicker than a goat which takes time to be still! Like they say, bahut jaldi aur baghair takleef kay jaan nikl jati hai. You can watch it on youtube. Sorry if i sound barbaric but that's how it's done and it's said to be a lot of 'sawaab' for camel sacrifice as well.

Muscat99, yes i heard it's tough because the animal that is sacrificed has to be atleast 5 years of age as compared to 2 years for a goat or a cow...so that's the reason of the meat being hard to cook and it needs no salt since it's naturally salty. So you mean regular qorma type but cooked for longer period?maybe marinating for few hours with meat tenderiser or raw papaya might help?

I've never cooked it, just had it many times at friends houses. They've told me their recipes.
