    Help-Pakistani appetizer ideas needed

    Behnuuuu please help.

Here I am stuck in Turkey (the country, not the bird) where when I asked for pissa hua dhanya people looked at me like I had sprouted a new head.
(btw, fwiw, I figured out it's call KishNish in Turkish, and I can get the spice seller run it through a grinder several times to get it the way I want it).

So, spices are limited and I don't own an oven.

I'm thinking of chicken and macaroni balls, maybe aaloo ki tikki but I need a good recipe for aaloo ki tikki. Any other ideas?

"stuck in Turkey"- sounds lovely! ...

Erm i would also suggest mini kebabs, shaami kebab, chicken shaashlik, chana chaat (cholay), as these are pretty straightforward and not very time consuming.

KishNish is lovely , miles apart from KishMish.

This is how I make mine:

                    Ingredients:

                    4-5 medium sized potatoes

1 medium sized onion, finely chopped

                    1 tsp chilli powder

                    1-1.5 tsp salt

                    1 tsp garam masala

                    About 2 tbsp of zeera

About 2 tbsp of coriander seeds (I don't really measure the zeera and coriander...I just toss in a handful)

A handful of fresh dhania....finely chopped

A few green chillies, finely chopped

1 egg....(in a bowl beat the egg yolk AND the egg white)

                    Directions:

Boil and smash the potatoes. Add the onion...and mash. Add the spices and mix/mash well...so that the spices spread evenly through. Add the dhania and green chilies...and mash/mix well. I wet my hands when I shape the cutlets. Somehow the wetness (according to my mom) helps to prevent them from falling part when you fry them. Heat up some oil....and dip the cutlets in the egg wash and fry.

Chaat would make for a good appetizer...and there's really no cooking involved except for boiling the potatoes. You can buy canned chick peas, chop up the tomatoes, etc.

Gol guppay would be an AWESOME appetizer. Cuz they're so cute...and so bite-sized They're among my favorite foods. And they've got so many flavors...spicy, sweetness/tang from the chutney. And a variety of textures....the soft from the potatoes and chickpeas....the crunch from the shells. And they're filling and just so perfect even as starters. I wonder why desi restaurants down here don't include them in their appetizer section.
