OR.....you could just soak them in water a few minutes before cutting, and that should take care of the problem

Just dont lean over the onions as your chopping, lean back. My eyes never get watery unless i forget to lean back.

Don't lean backward to the point where you fall backward or cannot see what you are doing otherwise you will end up chopping your fingers. So be careful people.

^^ lol yes "lean back method" is for expert choppers only.

try "arms length" method to begin with.

                        Re: Tears from cutting onions?

Soaking them in ICE cold water for a few mins after peeling and before cutting will not water your eyes. I have been doing it for years and it works great I put them in cold water and add few icecubes.
                        Blessed, happy, and content. Alhumdulillah.

                          Re: Tears from cutting onions?

methods of cutting onion without tears are the following:

cut/slice them under a tap, or rinse often. this washes away the stuff that makes your eyes water

                          or

put them in the fridge for a bit, then cut them while they're cold. This makes the chemical process slower, thus your eyes are safe
