It is the most intellectual place on Earth. It has produced several Nobel Prize winners and has universities at par with Harvard and MIT. In sports it is unbeatable - several Wimbledon champs and Olympic Gold Medalists have come from there.

hey afia...hope this helps...i'm talkin from my experience which goes back to 96...i dunno how it is now...

      yes...its very peaceful

all indoor places are well air-conditioned...so u don't feel the scorching heat cept from the time u step out of a buildin to ur car for example...manageable

schooling is good as well...the schools follow the british system (O-levels) and the pakistani schools follow the pakistani system...ur choice of what u want for ur kids, and what u can afford...

yes, u can hear azaan 5 times a day...MashaAllah enuf mosques there...

i'd say ppl there are more honest than any other place...of course there are ppl who are not, but they are everywhere...just that the laws in that place are pretty strict, so ppl are forced to be honest in their day-to-day dealings...

they had a scheme going on there where if u buy some property, they give u the nationality for UAE...so yes, u can buy property...even if u are not arab...dunno if that particular scheme is still on...but it was very successful...the property that was put up on sale was sold literally within 15 mins (that included apartments in buildings etc as well)

there are a lot of ppl there from south-east asia...enuf of the desi community there...most ppl are friendly...70% of uae's population are non-arabs actually...

i'd say its a good mix...not 2 liberal or 2 conservative...a nice balance b/w the two...the way it should be...

compared to other middle-eastern countries, yes the economy is growing and is not solely dependant on oil...

potential for own business...hmm...dunno how it is regarding that in uae...sowwy ...but i guess like everywhere else, it depends heavily on the type of business...

                just a note on economy,

Dubai has world's largest "computer" project going on rite now. Its called Internet city. I dont' know much details about it but i heard that its bosting their economy on top. My professor at the university (Guelph, Canada) told me about it. He said that all the major computer companies like IBM, Microsoft, Oracle etc etc, are there.
                I am not a crook!

Yes it's pretty hot there, not uncommon for summer temperatures to rise upto 50+ degrees. Winter temperatures, though, do compensate for this - the evenings are absolutely wonderful. You might need a light sweater from October/November to February, it gets relatively chilly sometimes believe it or not.

One can hear the Azaan in all the emirates of the UAE, including Dubai. In terms of property, marriage, child rights, etc. - there is a distinction made between 'Gulf Arabs'/'Emiratis'/'nationals' (all refer to those Arabs born anywhere in the United Arab Emirates) versus 'non-Emirati Arabs' (would include all Saudis, Jordanians, Iranians, Syrians, etc. - all Arabs born outside of the UAE).

Until very recently, it was not legally possible to own property unless you were a Gulf Arab. Recently, Dubai has altered these rules to permit any so-called foreigner - even including nonArabs, to purchase properties. The requirement, from what i understand so far, is to put up a large amount of downpayment upfront - (something, incidentally, that nationals do not have to do).

Security-wise - it's one of the more safer countries based upon my personal experiences. (However that's not to imply there is no crime rate, because there is and i think it is slightly increasing).

All the Emirates have their own advantages and disadvantages, but i prefer Sharjah and Abu Dhabi the most. They are a bit more 'quieter' than some of the other emirates, i think.
