I've talked to some girlfriends regarding women in power(presidential, prime ministerial - is this a word?, senatorial, etc)and most of them have suggested that if women were in such positions, the world would be a better place. They wish that more women ran for governmental positions, etc.
Now the thing is, none of them wanted to do this themselves. They felt other women would be adequate and would qualify, but they themselves would not. When asked why, the responses varied from, "I'm too sensitive." to "Men wouldnt take me seriously." I've heard both sentiments often. I just dont understand it. Considering how women deal in their daily lives with men, with their loved ones, etc, I dont know why they couldnt deal with it.
Anyway, what I wanted to ask was, do you think women are inherently incapable of having such a leading role in government/politics? Would you vote for a woman if she was qualified, for a governmental position?
I know many people who think this way, but would not say it openly to other (only a select few).
As far as the hadith about women not taking such lead positions (which came after the war led by Ayesha(RA)), that hadith has been debated, and some, but not all scholars consider it weak. If this is your reasoning, please state it.
I'd like to know anyones opinoin on this, and I'd like it if all jokes were kept out of this thread. Thanks.
