How many of you support Jamaat-i-islami?

This happened three years ago. It was the day of the Hindu festival Holi when the results were anounced at the Dow (spp?) Medical College, Karachi. A Hindu boy secured the first position. In an ecstatic and playful mood, the first ranker threw some colour over his Muslim Friends. THe Muslim friends also joined in the fun and replied by throwing ink and other coloured stuff.

As they were having some light hearted fun, a few activists of the Jamaat-E-Islami arrived and warned the Muslim boys against this "Haram" act. The Muslim boys replied that they were just celebrating their achievments, and continued with their frolics. The Jammat activist brought chains and bottles and attacked the boys. With every stroke of the chain, they chanted "Narai Takbeer, ALLAHU AKBAR!!!" And they beat one of them to death while another person died three days later, sufferring from multiple fractures.

It hurts when such acts are done in the name of Islam.

You cannot judge the Jamaat-i-Islaam on the basis of the actions of very small number of its members.

Were this the case, it would also be possible to conclude that all members of Gupshup are hackers, simply because in the past some members turned out to be hackers.

you are referring to "jamiyyat" which is a student wing of jamaat-e-islami. I am very familiar with these thugs and their actions in various institutions. Of course my sympathies used to be more with NSF. My older cousins who were at DMC were involved in various groups and I got a chance to met some DMC NSF legends liek furqan zaffar and Umar daraz khan, but that was a while ago.

I have never supported either teh jamaaat or the jamiyat, and wonder how thugs like these can get away with the type of crap they bring about in our institutions of higher learning.
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he did not exist. And like that... he is gone.

Jamayat Islami stands for the perfect example of exloitation and atrocity on the name of religion.

Religion still sells hot and these guys know it. I think all the student bodies in acedemia should be demolished and any such underground student activities should be dealt with severity. Political influence in academic institution takes its worst form by manipulating and polluting young minds.

Intolerence is the key ingrediant of Jamaat-e-Islaami and its student wing Islami Jamiyyat-e-Tulaba.

This post reminded me of one of my own post written way back on Gupshup. It is in the Relgion section and the URL is Controversial Post. I read it again, just now, and it was still so funny. Afsoos, it was locked. Moreover, I thought that post contributed to the start of the great Wahabi-Sunni fighting on Religion section in Nov 2000. Those were the times.....

Pristine, your obvious attempt to advertize your previous post (and sympathy-seeking tactics for its being locked down) duly noted. Please refrain from referring back to your previous intellectual endeavours and consequentially causing us the inconvenience of few extra clicks.

When I was in Karachi University, I saw a gun with almost every Jamiyyat workers, every Puppu, Dhuppu and Larry was caring a Made In USA Guns in their pockets. They use to take them out for no reason, anybody said anything and one of them will put his hand in his pocket to take the gun out, it was crazy.

An interesting way of describing a political party that is one of the most active in trying to abolish the sectarian intolerance in Pakistan today.....

                    1. Jamaat-e-Islami carries no such pretentions or makes any such claim.

                    2. You probably have not observed the hard ball tactics of Jamiyyat in Pak colleges and universities targetting those who do not agree to their thinking.

                    3. If you did, then you obviously approve of the intolerance which they espouse.

ps. JI trying to abolish sectretarian intolerance? This must be the joke of the day. Sheesh!

Jamaat-i-islami is worse than any terrorist group cuz it terrorises in the name of Islam.

This is too much generalization. I have never been a Jamaati, Wahabi myself and infact at one point said to my tutor that he can't be a Jamaati coz he doesn't have a beard and rather have got a moustache.

Sadly, in Pakistani universities, student parties have become the student wing of political parties rather than solving student problems. http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/nook.gif Be it PML, PPP, MQM, Inqalabi Tehreek, etc they all have good and bad people and whichever party is stronger in any college tend to beat their opposition. They fight till they think they control the college and call it "Qabza" . The good people of these parties support their agenda using logic while the others resort to violence and hence I think generalization is wrong on the basis of people coz that would mean the whole world is a bad place coz of few bad people.

I had written a thread If I support MQM, Jeay Sindh, and Wali Khan to create awareness among Pakistanis that like religious tolerance there should be political tolerance as I have seen here that Scottish National Party (they want independence from UK) are not considered traitors or bad people only because they have a different ideology. The thread was completely taken in a wrong context and I have given up on Pakistan Affairs. I think in order for Pakistan to prosper better we will have to create a culture of tolerance and that is they key to our success.
