    JINNAH (the movie)

Hi ppl. This is the first time im writing for gup shup. I was invited by Muzna (thanx muz *wink*).

I wanted to know what became of the movie. I heard they played it in the states somewhere. I didnt get to see it.. nor did anyone else in Pakistan. Probably banned for life. I cant resist all this hype bout it... just gotta see pronto.

Heard that the makers had to go thru a lot for finances and sponsors. I was lucky enough to see a scene being shot on Burns Road Karachi. I hope we can see the portrayal of the real Jinnah in the movie.

The film 'Jinnah' was briefly shown during the London film festival - I was not able to see it due to enormous demand amongst the Pakistani community here, but it is due for general release in the uk at some point within the next 2 months. Some critics have slammed it for being historically inaccurate, but I think that it would be worth seeing nevertheless.

      Waqar,
I was one of those lucky people able to see the film - on the showing after the London Film Festival - as I said in one of the other forums I thought the film was very good. All the reviews I have read have been good ones. I am not sure where you read your reviews of the film, obviously most of the critics would be English ones and I am afraid their views of no consequence - the reason being that they have never been feed the full impartial details of the Quaid E Azam and the other people and the events that lead to the birth of Pakistan. Most of these people know of the Quaid-e-Azam as the 'baddie' from the Richard Attenborough film 'Gandhi' - These critics have always been lead to believe that Gandhi and Nehru were the heroes. Anyway this 'Jinnah' film is as I have said earlier very good - the acting is top class - Christopher Lee (who played Mohammed Ali Jinnah) and I think it was Shirin Shah who played Fatima looked very much like the pictures of their characters. The only think to get used to in the film was the way the film was made - it was very different and takes a bit of getting used to but I think credit is due to Salman Peerzada the director who made this work effectively.
