      Salam Hinna and Fraudia Sahib

I'm touched by your concern for Doctor Amir, but can I ask what makes him different to the thousands in Pakistan who die of cancer each year? Is it because he is able to make his plight known to people by setting up a website asking for donations? I hope he manages to raise the required amount for his bone marrow transplant, but it makes me sick that no one thinks of setting up a fund when a 3 year old child in a remote village is dying from his cancer, and all his parents can do is, hold him and watch him die.

Don't call me heartless, because I know what it's like to be affected by cancer. A couple of years back, my father had an operation to remove a tumour on his spinal cord, it wasn't cancerous, but had it not been found and removed, it would have made him paralysed from the neck down. At some point in our lives, most of us will be affected by cancer which is why I donate money to the Imperial Cancer Research Fund regularly (http://www.imperialcancer.co.uk).

      Farhana.
ps: I'm sorry if I've offended anyone as that was not my intention.

I don't think your reply was offensive....just a good dose of reality.

Isn't it always the case that when someone has the means to accomplish something they do....while many others, who may be as or more deserving are left behind.

I went to the website, very sad story.
Farhana, sorry about your father, I hope he is better now. Well we have to do the best we can, poor guy or rich guy, donation to Imperial cancer fund is also not more important than a donation to a poor village hospital clinic in Pakistan. We have to try atleast...

Fraud, I tried to contact the email address on the website, I got the following error

He's ok now, thanks, apart from the pain ( he had a chunk of bone removed from his spine). But it freaked us all out.

I understand what you mean about donating to poor hospitals in Pakistan. But as everything in Pakistan, you can't but help wonder where the money they get goes to.

(Makes you wonder what Abrar-ul-Haq and Imran KHan do with all the donations they get.)

farhana, you are absolutely correct. There are many deserving people out there that need treatment, but I guess only a few cases are actually "advertised" so to speak, and those few cases get peoples attention.

I guess, the reason why I'm concerned about this guy is because someone I know, knows him personally. Aamir just got married 3 months ago, and he has so much to live for..a career, a family.....

As for your father, Inshallah Allah swt will restore his health.

who we help depends on our intitiatve and the person's initiative. What makes this guy different, i dont know..i have never met the guy, and prior to getting this msg i had never heard of the guy. I am not even sure if this is authentic..but i felt storng enoiugh about it to share it with people and they can follow their own feelings and do their own investigation.

As far as contributing to funds, I have decided on a few things #1 a large number of charity organizations waste a lot of resources so I am very careful about who i give my money to #2 I prefer to help people in the poor countries, especially my own where there is a lack of facilities and government funding etc.

His story is no different than many others, here we know that we are helping one specific person out and maybe he will go on and save many others

I just wanted to say that.

I don't know this guy but has he done some great work so I should think about giving some money to him rather than to people who are dying and have no one to turn to.

isnt he one of those people who dont have anyone to turn to.

Being a physician in Pakistan is not the same as being a physician in US. There are plenty of hardworking poor students from modest backgrounds who get to professional colleges based on their hard work and merit..

Just because he is a doctor does not mean that he has connections or is loaded, or that his family has deep pockets..

You are correct. I have two uncles who went thru medical college and eventually became doctors. They were from middle-income family. My own brother has become a doctor in U.S. while I am officially bankrupt (Chapter 7). There a lot of cases in poor countries of average/poor people rising above the majority through their work and merit.

We humane responsibility to help those we become aware of. I don't know, personally, of any cases in a village in Pakistan where a
family is affected by a child who has cancer.
When and if I find out, I will do what my heart would tell me to. If the case is genuine, as some people have rightly questioned, then if many people help out a little then this person would get the medical
benefit he is hoping for. Qatra qatra darya banta hai.
