so, how many will still go to Mc Donald's

Class action lawsuit against the fast-food chain McDonald's :
WASHINGTON: An Indian-American lawyer has initiated a class action lawsuit against the fast-food chain McDonald's for "misleading vegetarians" and "secretly" lacing its French fries with beef products.

Claiming to be acting on behalf of a million Hindus and some 15 million other vegetarians in the United States, Seattle attorney Harish Bharti says he is seeking "millions of dollars" in damages from McDonald's for fraudulently claiming that their fries are cooked in vegetable oil. The deception also resulted in violating the religious belief of many Hindus, he says.

The expansive lawyer, who came to the United States from Patiala 18 years ago, said he decided to sue after Dr Raganand, a religious guru who was visiting him, ate French fries at a McDonald's and they found the corporation allowed the use of beef tallow to "enhance" the taste.

You mean you DIDN'T know MacDonalds's lace fries with beef tallow? I've been boycotting the McDonald's here in the UK for months already!!!! By the way, I hear that Burger King fries are still safe for us. The only thing they're laced with is sugar solution to make them go crispy on the outside......

Well thre fries them selves are cooked in 100% vegetable oil..... but in the factories they get pre-soaked with beef tallow. The reason being that McD wanted to preserve the flavour they had back in the 70's when they used beef fat to fry the fries. To the best of my knowledge, the fillet o' fish itself is done in vegetable oil, but I don't know if the cheese slice in it contains animal renin or not. I've given up on McD's totally, but another one of my friends still gets fillet o' fish from there - just minus the cheese slice.

And I did do research on BK.... vegetarian web sites say that BK fries are okay, and whilst they are unsure about BK cheese, they do point out that BK do a veggie burger meal that is vegetarian approved. That's all I ever eat at BK these days.... Large Veggie Whopper Meal please!!!!!

well, you can try healthy substitutes to fast food..like Tim Hortons subs..or how about something from Mr. Sub or Subway or bagel stuff..(i am sure that your local area might have something good to offer)..some other ideas would be eating pita wraps or falafel sandwich.

If a french fry has 0.002% animal products in it, does that really make it non-vegitarian?

When we eat a fresh fruit or vegtables, there will always be some form of live bacteria on them. Does that mean vegitarians shouldn't eat those either? There are countless different types of living organisms in our mouth as it is. How are you going to avoid ingesting those?

Don't you think you are all taking this a bit too far? Is every Hindu/Muslim expected to take a portable laboratory with them, so that can test each ounce of food for traces of things they shouldn't eat?

I think that by all means, you should take *REASONABLE* precautions... but making a big hoo-haa, suing McDonalds and conconting exhaustive mental lists of "foods to avoid" is going just a little too far.

You'll find that most of the haram foods defined in the Quran, were simply unhealthy to eat due to the poor cleanliness of the meat (swine, carrion etc.) at the time. If a french fry is fried in beef or pig fat now, you are not going to suffer the same diseases or parasites that infected these animals hundreds of years ago.

I think it's time we all apply a little common sense here, don't you?

                        My humble opinion.

I'll still be eating fries at Mcdonalds.

I'm often surprised at just how severe
people will be when it comes to eating
yet their basic character and conduct
                          is all too often lacking.

Just how severe do you want to be ?

Back in the eighties here in the UK
we went through a phase where everything
was being made haram, I can still
                          remember even bread and toothpaste
was declared haram. We had to eat
Zam Zam bread, the only halal bread
you could buy, it was rubbish.

Work on your conduct first before
nit picking at tiny little things.

OK,OK, so, you are saying that people who are trying to aviod the Haraam food have bad character. (Haraam food is something scrictly prohibited by our religion). if you think eating haraam food is not a big issue for you, go eat whatever you want.
(I now got a clear idea about your own character)..
