Whatever he wanted I don't know but what he got was a secular government.
Under this government Islam died politically.
Uneducated Maulvis were born.
Apologetic Muslims were born with many erroneous beliefs such as
Jihad is used for defence only,
Islam is democratic,
Also people began delving into the spiritual world more than the political world leading to muslim weakness and good Jinn stories.

Coolio:
If one pays attention to Jinnah's speaches it
would become clear that he wanted a Secular
form of Govt. in Pakistan.
The meaning of the word Secular has changed
over a period of time. Some centuries ago
the word Secular was used for chruches who
used to own property (mainly land). They
used to be called Secular Chruch's. The
orignal meaning of the word Secular is
"Earthly". So when different chruch started
buying property they were called secular
chruches.
Now, the sad thing is that people take the
Secularism as a word meaning "Non-religious".
But many Intelectuals have said that it
means "All-religions". In other words no
religion has preference over another religion
in a given society, nation, etc.
Coming back to Jinnah, It is sad that people
do not read history and try to learn from
the T.V dramas and "Urdu Digest".
The first trator of Pakistan was Liaqat Ali
Khan (the first PM of Pakistan) giving in
to political pressure he introduce the word
"Islam" in whatever the Constitution was
then as the supreme source of the Pakistani Nation. (95% of our laws are still
from the British times.

In my view point.
Quaid nor wanted a secular government neither an Islamic one.
He dreamt only a government.
The concept of an Islamic republic and government was given by Allama Iqbal and was acted upon by Liaquat Ali Khan.
Thats it!!

hey coolio and punjabi munda calm down, coolio you are a hypocrite, this mindless bickering is not what he wanted from fellow muslims.... quaid wanted neither a secular nor islamic state, what he had in mind was to have a safe haven for his fellow muslims who were at that time oppressed and did not really have a voice in parliament.

I think Jinnah wanted a secular state so fundamentalism would not destroy Pakistan like it is today. Pakistan should become a secular state if it wants to succeed in the modern world.
Now Islam is the greatest religion in the world. But a government based on religion has never worked out in modern times. Because a religious government produces fundamentalists who don't know anything, don't do anything, and just want power. Now some maulvis are not like that. They're good hearted people who inspired me to convert to Islam. But some need to learn about the true meaning of Islam which calls for toleration of others and peace.
May Allah help Pakistan.

Coolio,
Fundamentalism means sticking to the fundamentals of your ideas i.e. the foundations on which anyone has an identity. Someone who believes in Democracy will whenever he/she needs to do something will always refer to freedom of speech etc which are the fundamentals of their ideas . The word fundamentalist should not be considered a negative word and it shouldn't be limited to just Muslims.
Also after the destruction of the Islamic state through secularisation there hasn't been a single government born which could be considered Islamic.
The reason why Islam is a way of life is because Islam consists of rules which teach you how to trade, how to form companies, contracts etc and only Islam can solve Human problems. For example ask a Christian what rules they are in their religion on how to form a state and they will say none.
Islam succeeded over other religions in the past because the other religions were purely spiritual and not political so as long as they were able to stay Christians or Jews the Muslims could run the affairs of the state.
In modern times in fake Muslim countries, such as Pakistan, Islam is treated as a Spiritual religion so the conflicts with the other religions are on a spiritual basis. People seem to think that Islam must dominate on a spiritual basis but the reality is that Islam must dominate on a political basis.
