I wonder if there are any hindu's here I would like to get your response to this statement(although if you are offended I appologize it wasn't the purpose of this question.)
In Islam we belive in Jinn's... and it is said that before the time of the last prophet (PBUH) that Jinns would go into the heavens and listen about what the future will be...But after the prophet came the heavens were closed to the Jinnath. ANyways a good friend of mine told me that it is the Image of the Jinns that Hindu's in prehistoric times replicated.....As teh Jinns use to come and tell them what is to happen and it did happen because they were spying....
