CAIR-NET: Canadian Newspaper Publishes Hate-Filled Attack on Islam

In the Name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful

CANADIAN NEWSPAPER PUBLISHES HATE-FILLED ATTACK ON ISLAM

    -----

ISLAM ALLOWS FOR NO OTHER FAITH
By: J. Craig, The Winnipeg (Canada) Free Press, 1/13/2001 http://205.200.191.20/cgi-bin/LiveIQ...c=38603?search
Or search the "Faith" section of http://www.winnipegfreepress.com.

...the core doctrine of Islam allows for no other faith to exist peacefully
    alongside it.

The key factor in understanding Islam is to realize that it must be examined in
the religious and cultural context of seventh-century Arabia. Mohammed, its
founder, raised the seventh-century Arabian culture to the status of divine law.

In reality, Islam is the deification of seventh-century Arabian culture. Islam
imposes this culture in its politics, family affairs, dietary laws, clothing,
religious rites and even its language. In Mohammed's Arabia, the sheik or chief
of the nomadic tribes had absolute authority and that is why Islamic countries
today are inevitably ruled by dictators or despots...

...Muslims claim that Allah is the same God as Christians and Jews worship, but
that is false. Allah is a purely Arabic term referring to the Arabian moon god.
It was one of the many deities that already existed in Mecca, Arabia before
Mohammed, and it was represented by a black stone. When he later took control of
Mecca he destroyed all the idols in the Kaaba (the holy place in Mecca) except
the stone deity, the moon god Allah. The symbol of its worship in pre-Islamic
Arab culture was the crescent moon that is also on the flags of every Islamic
    nation today.

Mohammed, the prophet of Islam was born in AD 570 in Mecca and died in AD 632.
At the age of 40, he supposedly started receiving revelations from the angel
Gabriel, but in the Muslim 'Bible', the Koran, there are four different
    contradicting accounts of what happened.

These revelations were: that there was no god but Allah; that mankind were
slaves of God; that people would be judged or rewarded eternally based on their
deeds; and, later, he was told to rob passing caravans nearby. The Koran and
history report that he fought over 66 battles killing tens of thousands of
people, including the beheading of 1,000 captured Jewish men at one time...

...Concerning the Koran itself, historian Edward Gibbon has described it as "an
incoherent rhapsody of fable, and precept, and declamation, which sometimes
crawls in the dust, and sometimes is lost in the clouds"...

...Another reality in Islam is that women are considered mere property in the
more fundamentalist sects. Perhaps as many as 75 per cent of Muslim women suffer
female circumcision which is a most barbaric and painful ritual designed to make
    them obedient and docile.

Islamic law today includes torture, political assassination, the cutting off of
hands, feet, ears, tongues, heads and the gouging out of eyes, all because these
kinds of atrocities were part of the seventh-century Arabian culture.

In conclusion, while the devout Muslim believes that the doctrines of Islam were
sent from heaven, Middle East scholars have shown beyond all doubt that every
belief and ritual can be traced back to pre-Islamic Arabian culture. Therefore,
the religion of Islam is false, yet it is the fastest-growing religion worldwide
and it is the second largest, too -- and within Europe, as well.

This reality is an ominous threat to our western way of life and this was
chillingly revealed in a statement released by Reuter's news service in October
of 1999 where a Muslim leader told Roman Catholic Archbishop Bernardini of Izmir
of Turkey that: "Thanks to your democratic laws, we will invade you. Thanks to
our religious laws, we will dominate you."

ACTION REQUESTED: (As always, be firm but POLITE. Hostile responses can and will
be used to further harm the image of Islam and the Muslim community.)

Contact the Winnipeg Free Press to express your concerns about this hate-filled,
INACCURATE and offensive attack on Islam and the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). Demand
a public apology and the dismissal of any editor involved with the decision to
    publish this article.

    hmcq,

Since you seem to be in touch with this group, can you please inform us also as to what results were achieved as a result of letters and complaints sent to the editor of the paper?

Seeing positive results encourages us to keep fighting such misrepresentation.

There is a url for the organizations website. It has several different newsletters highlighting some of the organizations achievements and I would suggest people take a look at them.

Among the things I do know of they have helped in sensitizing several different companies and public organizations. They have also worked against the secret information act (i think thats what its called) used by the INS in the US to detain people (mostly arabs) without showing the court or defence lawyers the information. They have also helped people in jobs who have been discriminated against on the basis of religion or thier religious practices.

I am not sure of this specific case, but I believe a couple of weeks back there was an article in a vancouver daily that was racially biased and after letters from readers, they offered an applogy to the muslim society there.

hope that encourages some of the people here.

        CAIR GOOD NEWS ALERT #281

CANADIAN NEWSPAPER PUBLISHES APOLOGY FOR ANTI-MUSLIM ARTICLE
Winnipeg Free Press commentary called Islam "false" and an "ominous threat"

(WASHINGTON, DC - 1/16/2001) - A Canadian newspaper apologized publicly
today for a weekend article titled "Islam Allows for No Other Faith" that
claimed the religion of Islam is "false" and that the growth of Islam is an
"ominous threat to our western way of life."

The commentary by J. Craig also claimed that Islam is merely the
"deification of seventh-century Arabian culture." Craig also wrote that
Allah is really an "Arabian moon god." (Arabic-speaking Christians also use
the word "Allah" when referring to God.")

The Winnipeg Free Press in Winnipeg, Manitoba, published its apology after
receiving "hundreds" of complaints from Muslims in Canada, the United
States and around the world. Those complaints followed the distribution of
a CAIR Action Alert. In his apology, headlined "Offence to Islam Not Taken
Lightly," Free Press editor Nicholas Hirst admitted that the commentary
"was condemnatory and, had I been Muslim, I should have found it
        offensive."

(Go to http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/, then click on "Editorial." Also: http://205.200.191.20/cgi-bin/LiveIQ...824?editorial)

Hirst wrote: "In retrospect, the standards of debate to which we would hold
ourselves were breached on Saturday. Like others, we learn from our
mistakes. The views expressed are not the views of this newspaper...The
letter, however, crossed the normal bounds of acceptable debate within this
newspaper. I am responsible for what appears in this newspaper and I offer
my apology for the offence caused." The newspaper also published a number
of letters critical of the inaccurate information presented in Saturday's
        article.

Shahina Siddiqui of the Manitoba Islamic Association wrote: "You cannot
imagine the pain and suffering you have caused our people and especially
our children who were born in this country and who naively believe that
Canada is a country where their faith is respected and protected and that
they are free to practise their religion." A Texas Muslim said, "I really
don't mind people criticizing and not agreeing with my faith, Islam. But
they should do that in a respectful and accurate manner."

        (See http://205.200.191.20/cgi-bin/LiveIQ...823?editorial)

"This type of inaccurate and offensive article goes beyond the limits of
public debate into hate-speech that could harm the safety and well-being of
the Muslim community in Canada," said Dr. Sheema Khan chair of CAIR's
Canadian office (CAIR-CAN). "CAIR thanks all those who contacted the
newspaper to express their outrage. Every letter had an impact," said Khan.

        ACTION REQUESTED:

        apology.
