what is SIN???

dear friends,
may i ask for your openion about the word SIN,
any daring buddy of mine would like to elaborate on the issue if one has ever committed any and what were the feelings assosiated with it.
i think it is a brain wave and it depends on the state of mind at the time of committing a sin.
please explain in detail.
