    Pakistani youth reject the General

Interesting story in today's Times (UK). Aparrently the youth in pakistan are fed up with Musharraf's military government and want to leave the country first chance they get. I'll give my views later, but first I'd like to hear from Gupshuppers who live in Pakistan to confirm that this story is correct.

    Here's the link:

I am a Pakistani youth know young people here we are sick and tired of Musharaf We want to live in a democratic country. I think democracy is our right but some older people here still think after all that army has done to the country that they are better than politicians. I don't agree.

At least military is not corrupt. No such thing as democracy is going to happen in Pakistan. Its all BS politicians use to get votes.

I am a British Pakistani and I was in Pakistan recently and frankly this article is way off mark - these guys must have gone to one particular Nawaz stronghold like Raiwind. The impression I got from my travels across Pakistan was that the young were far more pro-CE than other sections of society and looked up to the military.

          fantastic1,

You had democratic leaders in Nawaz and Benazir. Would you prefer them? They both got lots of big properties in my country England paid for by money looted from you people in Pakistan. You must really like them and you sure are generous.

When was the last time the western media portrayed anything positive about Pakistan?
I know this is going to be countered with "when was the last time something positive happened in Pakistan", but this is just the way we think. We have made it a habit to limit our vision and only look at the negative things happening in Pakistan, just like we limit our vision and only look at the positive things happening in the UK or USA. Thats not our fault. Thats the way most of our children in Pakistan are brought up....with a very narrow vision. Everyone is party oriented, and once they align themselves to a particular party, they will approve of everything that party does. Noone dares cross party lines in order to approve the right things. They cross party lines only when lured by money and power.

Its no news that the youth in Pakistan wish to go abroad first chance they get. But the majority does so in search of better education. And as for the current setup, it has accomplished more than what 37 democratic governments accomplished in the past 13 yrs. Actually, the record of the past 13 'democratic' years is so dismal, they made the term 'third world' seem like an advanced term.
If you dont like corruption, then you cannot help but approve of this government. And noone can deny that corruption has been the root cause of all evils to invade Pakistan in the past 13 yrs.

A year ago when General Musharraf came to power the westerm papers including the times really made him out as a saviour, a liberal family man etc who had saved Pakistan. Now they are knocking him down...just like they do their own politicians i.e. bulild them up and then knock them down. It gives them some sort of kick but in this case the CE is a foreign leader and their views are going to be laughed off by most young people who read this bizarre and inaccurate story.

                  God bless Pakistan
Its people are so use to Marshal laws that they think the dictators are saviors. Call Zia-ul-Haq the great savior don't even think that he is responsible for everything that is wrong with Pakistan today from the conservative approach to the gun and drugs culture. Hope people here realise this.

Who has told you people that army is not corrupt army is as corrupt as anyother institution may be even more its just no one can say anything against them. I am not a Benazir or Nawaz supporter I support what people choose and don't forget Army brought Nawaz to power. I hope the youth of my beloved country learns the truth and don't make the same mistakes as their elders.

                  I hope you
                  learn the truth as well.

                    >>I am not a Benazir or Nawaz supporter I support what people choose

That's the problem, people don't know what to choose in Pakistan. A democratically elected thief isn't going to be much use to Pakistan.

The same people who are complaining about Musharraf are the one's who were whining during Benazir's and Nawaz's time. If they could have been positive then, at least it would mean they were being consistent.

Akif raised some good points, I would like to see those getting answered first.

Mr Xtreme If you don't give people a chance they would never learn to choose the right people. Army has not given people the oppuronity to learn to vote correctly The people of a country that see marshall law almost always cannot learn. I would prefer a democratically elected thief over a self imposed robber. As far as Akif's points are concerned yes they don't but they would never do it unless we have a positive image. At the moment there is nothing positive about us that the media can potraty. They do what is in there interest We will have to be strong to stop them.
