    on or off

not sure whether a lot of u have been in such a situation.. but imagine if a close family friend was pretty much brain dead.. infact, lets assume they are.. if the doc asked u to make the decision of when to turn the machine off... what would be going thru ur mind?

the loved one is still breathing.. but highly unlikely every to "wake up".. what would u do?

(this is not a religious discussion...)

I think as long loved ones havehope the machine should not be turned off- if brain dead is the condition vast majority of poulation in the world would be forced to die.

Sadz after seeing this with one of my close relative, I would say do not lose hope and keep the life support until the last second of the breath. As for my relative, the doctor was advising to take him off the life support but his family didnot give him the permission. In the end, the doctor ended up appologizing and was embarrased to even speak to the family because the person survived.

I think the support shouldn't be turned off...i have seen some miracles that happened with few of my relatives where the doctors had no hope.

If there is absoloutley no chance what so ever, then I rather have that money( that is been spent on the survival of semi-dead person) spend on those who are alive but will die if are not fed/taken care of. i.e Africa/Somalia where thousands of people die every day late alone because of hunger.

If I know my very very close one has no chance of survival, I would give such permission with this thought in mind that I will spend equal amount of money, and will do any and everything to actually save someones life with that money ( i.e going to somaila and actually feed hungry people).

Even if you are only 50% sure that your that money will actually save many other lives, I think its far better to take that 50% chance over .1%.

^ yeah i would have to agree with that..

a close family friends dad was put on life support last year after he got shot in the head... and the family made the brave decision of turning the machine off.. see if i were in their shoes.. i guess i would have done the same thing..

its not playing God is it?

Its not playing God, its helping the people of God. You do not want the mother of that person to live like a Zombie just like that semi-dead person. There are MANY bad aspects that a person can think of in the aspect of keeping the person live but on the other side there various + points of taking such action.

It all comes to your Niyat.

noble thoughts - but why r we always waiting for such circumstances to occur before we can help the have-nots.. we spend so much money on expensive cars , houses, luxury items for just show off .. we can just have simple things for our needs and give away for charity or needed ones the rest.. its so easy to say things about circumstances others r going thru..

i dont think one needs to sacrifice their personal happeiness in order to make another person happy..

so why r we offended when someone is happy at seeing their loved ones fighting against death .. its all hope.. if thats waste of money and can be spent on poor why not the money we waste all the time spent on poor too? if we can save money for poor by a less expensive car, house or dinners its a nobler deed than any..

I would leave it on, because I could never forgive myself for letting a loved one die even if there is only a slight chance of survival.

Sadz, the feelings and thoughts can't be put down on a msg board or paper.

Salman, there's always a chance, until you die. The money you want to save is, your own, and his as well, that you had paid in form of taxes for situations like these.
